Publisher's summary

The story of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is very difficult to describe. Usually we give some information about the audiobook, but in this case we think that would spoil the listening. We think it's important that you start to listen without knowing what it is about.

If you do start to listen, you will go on a journey with a nine-year-old boy named Bruno. (Though this isn't a story for nine-year-olds.) And sooner or later, you will arrive with Bruno at the fence.

Fences like this exist all over the world. We hope that you never have to encounter such a fence.

A heart gripping fast read.

Narrator is fabulous. Story is sensitive but real. The innocence of a small boy living in a desperate time period is heartbreaking yet captivating.

What a powerful, heartbreaking story!

Should be required reading for everyone on planet earth. I loved Bruno's innocence, and I loved how the author told the story from the perspective of this naive nine year old boy. To me, that made the setting and events even more horrible. Hard to believe that, so many years later, genocide is still alive and well in many parts of the world. The narrator kept me engrossed, and I believe his delivery of Bruno's speech patterns far surpassed what my mind would have conjured, had I read the book instead of listened to it. This fable will stay with me for a long, long time - because it very well could have happened during those awful years . . . or yesterday . . .

Worth a read

I appreciate what the author did with this story regarding such a heavy subject. The story itself was just okay. As a learning tool, an introduction to the topic, a starting point for questions and further discussions - it’s excellent.

It was a great book

It was a great book. I love how the 2 characters portray a forbidden friendship on their time. It was sad but still worth listening too.

One of the best

Punches in your gut. An important and ingeniously creative way to show the deep wrongness of the Holocaust through the eyes of a naive German boy.

Much Better than the Movie

I was very impressed by "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas". It is an interesting take on a horific event told with such innocence that I cried many times throughout the story. Thank you Audible.com for caring this book!
