The Ask and the Answer is a tense, shocking and deeply moving novel of resistance under the most extreme pressure.

Absolutely fabulous book - not one to put a big smile on your face, but does ask some big questions. I found it quite difficult to read at times due to the trials and tribulations that some of the characters go through.
The narrator is absolutely fabulous, I really can't say enough good things about him, every voice is differentiated, and at times it's difficult to believe they're all coming from one person. I'd personally have him do all books from now on!
If you've read the knife of never letting go, get this book! It's an amazing sequel. If you haven't read the knife of never letting go, get over there and get it, then come back for this. I'm hooked! Off to read monsters of men.
"Keeps the story going"
With the characters from the first book and a few new ones the story develops into a battle between fanatics. The theme being you can't trust warmongers - on any side.
"this book actually irritated me"
The narrator was doing the best he could with the material in front of him. Yes, I would listen to another book from a different author read by Humphrey Bower
I would avoid anything written by this author ever again. Time and time again he kept repeating phrases that in the end just annoyed me. I endured almost two hours of listening before I eventually threw in the towel. A waste of one credit.
I only awarded one star because I had to give something.
Equally as great as the first book! I was not able to stop listening to this book, LOVED IT!
"Excellent second part!"
Great follow up, and as said before it has been read superbly. So good that you'll have to buy the next one!
"Exciting follow on."
Explosive story line with well narrated characters. I will definately be finishing this audio trilogy.
LOVE the book title! The Ask and the Answer is a psychological thriller. The story is original, the relationships between the characters are satisfyingly complex, and the language is wonderful. If I was being picky I'd say that once or twice I felt a scene was a little drawn out, but that would be really picky. Occasionally I had trouble with the switch between Todd and Viola, not realising that the speaker had changed immediately. No one else seems to have had this issue though and I completely agree with other reviewers that Humphrey Bower is one of the best audio-book narrators there is. If you liked The Knife of Never Letting Go you'll love The Ask and the Answer.
I really enjoyed this book. It was hard to turn off. The performance was great and I can't wait to find out what happens next.
"And you thought it couldn't get worse for Todd..."
Convincing, Enthralling, Suspenseful
The way the author takes a problem as old as mankind and gives it a new voice.
Humphrey Bower doesn't just read the book aloud, he becomes each character utterly and lives the book for the reader.
Impossible to pick a particularly moving part, the whole series left me filled with awe at Patrick Ness's literary power. Its almost exhausting to listen to!
This series is about good and evil at its most human level, putting us in a place that forces us to consider what choices we would make under the same circumstances and making it possible to understand even the most desperate of decisions. Challenge yourself!
