Publisher's summary

The tales of the Norse gods, of the giants, demons, trolls and dwarves, still have the power to fascinate more than a thousand years after they were first told. Here are the stories of the one-eyed god Odin, the all-seeing, who from his throne in Asgard the home of the gods, has to prepare for Ragnarok, the final conflict between good and evil. There are tales too of Tyr the god of war, of the cunning Loki, of Thor the mighty thunder god and a host of others. These retellings of the old tales are given extra dramatic perspective by the music of Mahler, Greig, Smetana, They come to life as never before.

Interesting & Fun

It's less about specific mythological stories and more about the overall chronology about the Norse mythos, and it's sometimes oversimplified (Loki Loki Loki!). Nevertheless it's a fun read/listen and entertaining even to those who aren't major fantasy buffs or European pre-history buffs.

Good story, ok performance

The stories and legends are fun, the music between them is kind of annoying and loud.

We really like this narrator

I was surprised to see a review commenting on poor delivery, as this is our favorite narrator.

We enjoyed his delivery of both "Greek Legends" so much that we searched for more books with the same narrator.

First-Class Performance of Engaging Mythology

This is a good telling of Norse legends the way most of us like them--as entertaining stories. The reading is simply perfect. I especially love the reader's interpretations of Loki, both in his sarcastic and wheedling moods.

Fear and loathing in Asgard

Gods and Giants. Men and monsters. Tree-beings and Trolls. Elves and dwarves. Peace and war. Love and treachery. Forged golden rings and magical weapons. Spells and sorcery. There's even a gollum prototype in the fallen Loki. If you want to hear the legends that greatly influenced Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" this one's for you. I enjoyed it hugely. The narrator is first-class, as is the audio quality.

Fun Book

This was a fun book to listen to. The narator does a great job of portraying the various characters and getting the listener into the book.

This would be a great book for older kids as well or any one who just enjoys norse mythology.

Good but short.... could have used more stories

I was surprised that it only had two chapters... the Norse origin story and the story about how Thor got his hammer. It could have included many others...too short in my opinion.

Great stories from the past

Just an enjoyable look into the Norse religion. I love Greek and Roman mythology, this is just so great. Can't say enough good things.

Perfect way to learn your mythology

I did not know much about Norse mythology before I listened to this book but even though it was not an extremely long audio book I learned so much about the Norse gods and the legends that make them important.

Good primer for many fantasy/sci fi books today

I selected this book because I knew nothing about Norse mythology, yet a basic knowledge of it is assumed in many of the books I like (American Gods, Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series, Anita Blake and werewolf packs).

This definitely gives you a good introduction to Norse Myths -- and they are actually much more interesting than the Greco/Roman pantheon. It piqued my interest and I will likely read more in depth works on the subject.

The narrator was excellent.
