Publisher's summary

Switched: the first book in the Trylle Trilogy.

When Wendy Everly was six-years-old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. It isn't until 11 years later that Wendy discovers her mother might have been right. With the help of Finn Holmes, Wendy finds herself in a world she never knew existed - a world both beautiful and frightening, and Wendy's not sure she wants to be a part of it.

Critic reviews

"Vampire and werewolf lovers beware; this trilogy opener offers readers a new take on an unexpected breed of mystical beings. Readers who can suspend preconceived notions and open themselves up to this new interpretation are in for a midwinter version of a good beach read." ( Kirkus Reviews)
"Wendy is a flawed antihero, which helps differentiate her from the throng of paranormal-romance heroines, and the potential for development, both dramatic and romantic, should make readers anxious for the next installment of the Trylle trilogy." ( Booklist)

An Awesome Surprise!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! Actually, I already have recommended it to several friends and they loved it just as much as I. And my sister-in-law recommended it to me and I'm glad she did!

What did you like best about this story?

It felt very fresh for a paranormal fantasy. So many books in this genre are saturated with vampires, werewolves & other were-creatures, faeries, ghosts, zombies, shapeshifters, etc. This is the first book I have come across that features trolls and offers a new an interesting spin on these mythological creatures. I honestly wasn't sure if I would even like the book, since these days, I'm not really into the whole YA thing, but it had me hooked by the first few chapters.

Which scene was your favorite?

Too many to name, but I especially enjoyed all the scenes with Wendy and her mother and Queen of the Trylle, Elora. You can tell her mother is a complicated woman, as Finn says.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Wendy's budding friendship with Tove.

Any additional comments?

I absolutely loved this book! The whole Trylle society is really intriguing and I loved all the characters...well, except for Finn. Not a fan of Finn. Therese Plummer did an amazing job narrating and I honestly haven't been able to find any flaws with the story and its narration. A solid 5 stars!

-P.S.- The second and third books are even better! Love this trilogy!

the narrator cuts out alot of this series.

not sure why they say unabridged but there are quite a few missing parts in this series.
other than that this is a decent series and the narrator has a quality voice.

Fascinating World / Chosen One Trope

This had my full attention, despite the fact that it's predictable and follows a Chosen One trope. What can I say? I love a good trope. Stories repeat themselves, just like history. That's how it has always been, and yet, I'd read a million versions of the same basic plot, as long as it is well-written with interesting characters.

And it has to make me feel something, since I'm an emotional reader, which this does.

This was a fun read, with a unique world, and the audiobook was excellent.

Truly a teen series

Having enjoyed so many books meant for teens/tweens (Riordan, Buckley, Rowlings), which have successfully bridged the generation gap and garnered significant adult followings, I gave this one a try. I can see where an 11-13 year old girl would enjoy the story, but it is so specifically tailored to it's intended audience that it gets carded at the gates to the older side of the gap and can't get in. However, if I were an 11-13 year old girl, this would be a complete rave.

Light and Fun!

I never expected this series to be so entertaining and addictive when I first bought Switched. The characters are interesting and the plot twists aren’t as predictable as most in this genre. However, this book is not for everyone. It’s like The Princess Diaries with trolls in it. If you are looking for something lighthearted and fun, this book would be a great choice, but if you’re looking for something darker and more intense, I would suggest The Vampire Academy Series or The Infernal Devices Trilogy.

Surprisingly Entertaining

So I actually got REALLY into this one. It's an interesting, unique paranormal young adult. I'll definitely continue with the series.

Different and Very Interested

I got this book on a sale and I am glad I did. It is very interesting and quite a different take from the usual vampire and werewolves. I enjoyed the trolls and found this book highly interesting. It was a bit dark but in a good way.

I will say I am not a big fan of the narration. I have head Therese in various different books and she always sounds like she is reading religious texts. She can never seem to just shake loose and relax. Go with the flow and really act it out. She is not an awful narrator but she has potential to be a lot more.

Even with that being said, I am looking forward to the next two books in the series because it is a good story.

Short but really good

Wow! This book was really good. I felt like there was part of the story missing like why was no one explaining to the princess anything but the bare minimum or why she was in a way so submissive. But am hoping book two will give me more of the back story that was missing. Love the action, the drama, and the little bit of romance. Happy reading!
