What the Critics Say

"Vampire and werewolf lovers beware; this trilogy opener offers readers a new take on an unexpected breed of mystical beings. Readers who can suspend preconceived notions and open themselves up to this new interpretation are in for a midwinter version of a good beach read." (Kirkus Reviews)

"Wendy is a flawed antihero, which helps differentiate her from the throng of paranormal-romance heroines, and the potential for development, both dramatic and romantic, should make readers anxious for the next installment of the Trylle trilogy." (Booklist)

"A Traditional Myth with a Twist! Best Troll Story!"
What was one of the most memorable moments of Switched?

The very end! Also, her confrontation with her host mother at the insane asyllum.

What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She definitely has a different voice, much deeper/huskier and it really gives the listener a better idea of the main character's personality and uniqueness as opposed to the traditional overtly feminine and helpless heroines. Her strength and resillence can be heard in Plummer's vocal storytelling.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Definitely!

    Any additional comments?

I was hesistant at first to purchase this book, but I am very happy I did! After listening to it, I immediately bought the other two finishing them over the weekend! Amazing story! I recommend it to all that love fantasy!

    "Mixed reaction"

I just finished this trilogy and enjoyed it enough, obviously, to listen to all three books.

There was a lot I enjoyed, but one major thing that would keep me from recommending it to my friends. The book contains some swearing and mild sexuality. I realize this does not bother some readers, but it is just not my preference in a book. I tend to lean towards teen and YA fiction for this reason. If that's you, be warned that the series pushes this fence.

Having said that, there is much I enjoyed about the series. I really liked the characters, the alternative universe created by the author, and the romance. While the story line is clearly fictional, the feelings of the characters feel real and believable - especially the struggle the main character has in coming to who she loves. Also, as the story unfolds, you begin to see events that have already occurred with a different perspective. I really enjoyed that.

In summary - mixed reaction to the book. I really enjoyed it - except the swearing and sexuality.

    "This book sucks!!!"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This is just OK for young teenage girls, but even then, there is way better out there.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Definitely not any book from this series.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

This book just gets more and more annoying the more you listen. Not really the performers fault, the book is just bad!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I thought that if I listened long enough eventually it would turn around and get good but what a waste! Definitely anger and disappointment.

    Any additional comments?

Time you will never get back!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend this book to a friend. There's a twisted Princess Diaries vibe that is just magnificent.

What about Therese Plummer’s performance did you like?

Therese Plummer capered the characters punctiliously. I loved listening to her performance.

What made the experience of listening to Switched the most enjoyable?

The voice was great, I read the book some time ago and having it read to me brought the book to life again.

What did you like best about this story?

the expressions in the narrators voice

Have you listened to any of Therese Plummer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I have not but I feel that I may get a book because of her if it is the type of books that I read.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Some parts of the book are sad as the main character learns and starts to grow.

    Any additional comments?

This is only the first of three books and I can't wait to listen to the rest of the series in audio.

    "Truly a teen series"

Having enjoyed so many books meant for teens/tweens (Riordan, Buckley, Rowlings), which have successfully bridged the generation gap and garnered significant adult followings, I gave this one a try. I can see where an 11-13 year old girl would enjoy the story, but it is so specifically tailored to it's intended audience that it gets carded at the gates to the older side of the gap and can't get in. However, if I were an 11-13 year old girl, this would be a complete rave.

"Just another "I can't take my eyes off him" book"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No, it wasn't the worst book ever written, but the characters are lackluster, and the plot in not remotely gripping. The main character is actually a bit unpleasant.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Probably the epilogue, it almost made me purchase the next book, it seemed as if it might actually have a plot to it.

Was Switched worth the listening time?

    No.

    "Waiting, Anticipating, and THEN....."
What did you love best about Switched?

The story starts slow, but hold on because before you know it you are locked in. You absolutely must know the answers which you feel coming at any minute. By the end of the book, you simply must know even more and you are compelled by your very own psyche to get the next book (which I have already started before writing this review). The anticipation in the book is palpable, tangible, breathing, and real. You feel it, literally.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Finn is my favorite, but who does not love the hard-bodied protective man who just wants to love you, but can't because of an evil parent?!?!?

    Any additional comments?

While I think this book misses helping me to understand all of Wendy's decisions (both good and just plain stupid in my humble opinion), you still don't know where this road will take you from start to finish. Nevertheless, that is what we want great writing to be right? An unknown, daring adventure into the wild of someone else's imagination. I wanted to yell at the characters and did sometimes, interrupting others at work in the office - funny in and of itself. So, I say to you ...... Listen to the book!
