Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow | [Jessica Day George]

Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow

Blessed (or cursed) with an ability to understand animals, the Lass has always been an oddball. And when an isbjorn (polar bear) seeks her out, and promises that her family will become rich if only the Lass will accompany him to his castle, she doesn't hesitate. But the bear is not what he seems, nor is his castle, which is made of ice and inhabited by a silent staff of servants.

Blessed (or cursed) with an ability to understand animals, the Lass has always been an oddball. But the bear is not what he seems, nor is his castle, which is made of ice and inhabited by a silent staff of servants. Only a grueling journey on the backs of the four winds will reveal the truth: the bear is really a prince who's been enchanted by a troll queen, and the Lass must come up with a way to free him before he's forced to marry a troll princess.

    "Fairytale"

This story was more of a traditional fairy tale than what I was expecting (hoping for). The narrator was dull and didn't add to the story. It felt like I was being read a bedtime story by my sister. I was hoping for a lot more.

    "Fantastic Listen!"

There is, in this world, a fine tradition of fairy tale retellings and "Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow" deserves a place alongside the best. I caught echoes of Robin McKinley's "Beauty," but they were not overwhelming. Furthermore, by choosing to deviate from the traditional fairy tale stock this novel stands on its own, charming feet.

I had previously read the book, so it was, as usual a shock to hear how badly I had mangled the Norwegian names in my head. Thanks so much to Audible for producing this book! I'd love to hear/read more by Jessica Day George!
