Editorial reviews

Briar Moss reluctantly adopts street urchin Evvy, who has a powerful gift with stones. Doing so puts him back in touch with the street life he has left behind. When Briar discovers he must not only protect Evvy but also teach her to control her magic, he's dismayed. This Full Cast Audio production manages Pierce's large cast of characters well, with especially believable performances for main characters like put-upon but good-natured Briar, distrustful Evvy, and short-tempered Rosethorn. (In fact, Evvy's irritable whine is so grating that it occasionally put this listener's teeth on edge.) Narrator Bruce Coville's pleasant delivery still manages to turn up the tension and highlight plot twists while illuminating the humor and wisdom of Pierce's vision.

Publisher's summary

Briar and Rosethorn are in ancient Chammur, where Briar gets involved in a war between street gangs at the same time that he ends up trying to train a young stone mage he has discovered. Intrigue, adventure, humor, nastiness, all set against a fascinating culture, this is classic Tamora Pierce.

Disappointed

The frist four books were outstanding. Both
as a writen work and as a audiobook.
I was very disappointed in this the fith book.
It was mostly done in the third preson narrative. Compare to the frist four book. which had lots more dialoge. With that said it's still a fair read/listen. Just don't expect them to be as good as the frist four. Or you too will be disapointed too.

Excellent bit of diversion...

I listened to this independently of the series-- I actually thought it was the first of them-- and as soon as it was done I started the series.

This was a nice well-written piece of fantasy, with an intelligent plot and good characters. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

The Stone mage

What did you love best about Street Magic?

I liked seeing Briar mature in his second book, and I really liked Evvy.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Street Magic?

The final confrontation always sticks in my mind, though when I think of this book tend to first remember Evvy's reaction to magic.

Which scene was your favorite?

I don't have one.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Probably something cheesy like "Time to rock" but that's because i'm bad at making tag lines...

Briar Moss

His full control of the plants and the care he gave them. Also his care of Evie. He treated her as an equal which she couldn’t understand.

I love this story!

I’ve read this series in book form for years. Our whole family loves it! But the production is great! I loved listening to the characters being brought to life.

Epic Adventure

I absolutely love Tamora Pierce! I've loved every book she has written to my knowledge. This story was a perfect continuation of the circle series.

Loved it!

Everything was amazing! I also loved the narrator for this book (which is a different one of from the last book).
