Publisher's summary

From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Mistborn Trilogy, Brandon Sanderson, comes the first book in a new, action-packed thrill ride of a series - Steelheart. Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.

But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his will.

Nobody fights the Epics...nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.

And David wants in. He wants Steelheart - the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father. For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying, and planning - and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.

He's seen Steelheart bleed.

And he wants revenge.

Amazing all around (the whole trilogy)

It’s hard for a book to pull me in but Steelheart did very quickly and never let me go until the end. MacLeod Andrews’ performance was perfect. Every character had a distinct voice; and emotions and personality oozed from his acting. I’m looking forward to listening to other books that he has has narrated.

The Example

Steelheart is one of my favorite books of all time! I’ve always been interested in stories involving super powers and the ethics surrounding them… this book is at the top of the pyramid of this genre.. wish i could give it more stars!

Unexpected yet satisfying

The story has many twists and turns yet they bring you into a world that is alien to me. I really like the character development and the way that the story keeps me wanting to listen more.

Very surprised!!

Rhis book took a bit to grow on me as the first few chapters take some time to develop the characters. however, once the book got going it definitely got going and it had great surprise and twist all throughout with an exceptional ending. definitely looking forward to the next one.

MacLeod Andrews + Brandon Sanderson

AMAZING! I love both of these story tellers! I just finished up the Sandman Slim series where Andrews breathes magick into every line. Adding his amazing acting to Sanderson’s (as always) phenomenal writing = perfection! Ok maybe not perfection but as about as close to reflection as an oil spot in a mirror house 🤣

Good book - but different for Sanderson fans

I think the story is overall good, but I don't think it highlights Sanderson's strengths as a writer and story-teller and therefore falls a little flat in the end. 3.5 is what I'd give the story if available, but it's not. The narration is awesome and actually helps the story in my opinion.

Like it.

Like all other books I have read or listened to from this author it is filled with suspence, interesting world views, interesting worlds and characters that are deep and different from each other. Choices that teach us about different forms of bravery, understanding and living.

lol "wild cards" but cleaner... and better.

like "wild cards" but cleaner and a lot more fun. because let's be honest. how much sex and cursing can you have? this book doesn't. characters are awesome and believable. feels pretty true to how people would be if they woke up tomorrow as "gods". leaves you wanting the next book. which I'm gonna go find now.

Entertaining, suspenseful and surprising

I mostly enjoy listening to non-fiction so this was a rare deviation from my routine. I bought the book based on positive reviews and a plot that sounded interesting. The book lived up to my expectations and then some. It's a well conceived story with strong character development. The writing sometimes feels a bit overly casual but that may just be the author really trying to get into the voice of the character. On the whole this is a wild roller coaster ride and a terrific listen. I was looking forward to each new chapter throughout. Now it's on to book 2!
