Publisher's summary

From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Mistborn Trilogy, Brandon Sanderson, comes the first book in a new, action-packed thrill ride of a series - Steelheart. Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.

But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his will.

Nobody fights the Epics...nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.

And David wants in. He wants Steelheart - the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father. For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying, and planning - and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.

He's seen Steelheart bleed.

And he wants revenge.

Great everything. (No spoilers)

I just have to say that this book has it all… Action, adventure, comedy, and good old science fiction. We're still on earth we just had one event that change the course of history. I felt like there was a very good balance between seriousness and comedy. While listening to the book it made me feel as if I was living in an alternative universe version of the X-Men. Wasn't expecting it and completely loving it.

Anti superheroes story

If you like comics this book is for you. The twist of this story is that the superheroes are the bad ones and the struggle is that normal people have to step it up.

I really liked it but I am the target demographic.

The narrator was excellent just for him I recommend it.

I will listen to the next book in the series.

Just get it

When I read the excerpt form this book, I thought it was one of the dumbest ideas I’d heard. However, I love Brandon Sanderson and MacLeod Andrews and I couldn’t resist.

ITS. SO. GOOD. Seriously, just buy it. The characters are funny and charming, the narration is excellent, and just try it.

A Surprisingly Great Book

I'm not going to write a long review, since others did a good job of it. I just want to say to people like me that might be hesitant about giving this series a try because of the "Young Adult" classification, that this is a typical Sanderson book. Other than the main character being literally a young adult, I didn't get actual YA vibes from it. It wasn't campy, it didn't focus on teenage romance or any of that stuff. It was just a good, solid story with interesting characters the same as any book Sanderson has written. If you like Sanderson, you'll like this.

And don't be too concerned with it taking place on Earth. He still managed to make it his own little planet to play with, somehow. And if you don't like superhero genre (I personally don't), you'll still like it because it's nothing like any superhero stuff I've ever read or seen. He basically turns the entire superhero thing on it's head. Trust me, you'll love it.
