Publisher's summary

Matt Cruse is back in the phenomenal third volume in Kenneth Oppel's best-selling, award-winning series - and this time he's heading for outer space. Airborn and Skybreaker, the first two books in the series, have been among our best-selling and most-honored titles, and we think you'll find this one just as thrilling - if not more so. Featuring an international cast of larger-than-life characters, this is adventure fiction at its finest.

A bit disappointing

As the third book of this series, Starclimber has a lot to live up to. Oppel has done a great job in developing an interesting and truly original storyline. Its quite believable in a fantastical sort of way. As long as he is writing about the Starclimber, the problems that occur to the ship and the people on board and the solutions to the life threatening dilemmas, the writing is crisp, clear and exciting. Its the development of Matt and Kate which is problematic. Since the story arc has covered several years, there should be some sign of Matt and Kate maturing and having learned from their experiences and mistakes. Instead, its as if Oppel wasn't sure how to develop their characters and had them behave as rather immature and selfish teenagers. Kate's character is so willful and self-centered that it is difficult to be sympathetic or to even like her. Matt's character behaves so jealously and is so insecure that he doesn't seem to be the same person we've seen in the previous two books. Their interaction with each other does not bode well for a long term relationship as it is full mistrust, selfishness and immaturity. Its hard to believe that they really care for each other.
The series seems to have come to end in this book as there is closure on a number of story lines. Perhaps Oppel will produce more, but if he does want to continue with the Matt and Kate characters, he'll need to spend more time developing them.
The voice actors portraying the various characters are all excellent as in the previous productions. Well, the scots character early in the book was rather grating and sound levels with his voice were very loud and unnecessarily startling and explosive. However, overall, this series is one of the best I've ever listened to and one I can recommend.

Riveting

This was absolutely a marvelous book and I could hardly wait to finish it. It was ingenious and I enjoyed getting to know the characters into further depths. There were unique twists and intrigue. This is a definitive recommendation if you enjoy adventure fantasy. Although listed under the young adult section, it is really marvelous for any age.

One of my favorite Author/Series/Performance

I love the Full-Cast Audio....and the Matt Cruz series is fun to listen to for all ages...even a Senior Citizen.

I wish there were more.

this would make a great graphic novel in a steampunk fashion. it would also make an awesome movie. probably a good 20 episodes on Netflix. Oops sorry! forgot where I was. It would make a great Amazon Original!

Doesn't lose any of its charm and exoneration no matter how many times you read

I started this series when I was ten and waited impatiently until I could get each book. Now, six years later, I've read all the books far too many times, and plan to read them many more. No matter how many times I read it it never gets boring. The performance is top notch by everyone, but I wasn't a fan of the actor who played Kate. It's not her fault, she did the best with the part she was given and she had a lot to stand up to. The Kates in Airborne and Skybreaker was both great, especially the one for Skybreaker, and though this one wasn't bad, she can't stand up to the others. I can't figure out why they changed her for each book and don't love the idea, but that doesn't take away from the overall story. I am just thankful they never changed the actor for Matt. If they did I would not be able to read the audio book and would be forced to buy the IBook. In short, everyone should read this and the whole series. It will take you on a wild ride you'll not soon forget.

A sound addition

Unsure if I want this to end this wonderful series or be a excellent resting place. I don't mean to ruin the story so I can only write a little bit I can say that this is incredibly well done. Wonderful characters, creativity, and action.

Great Entertainment, if Physics Isn't Your Thing

All three books of this series have been great fun and I hope this one is the last, because it ends on the right note. As others have observed, the tone of the story is very Jules Vern-ish, with the same spirit of adventure and the casual disregard of physics in building the story.

A Wonderful Finale

A truly great end to one of my favorite trilogies. the book ties up the series wonderfully and is read and dramatized by a stellar cast in this audio version.

A wonderful cast and interesting story

The space sections can push the boundaries of disbelief at times but overall it is a very satisfying story. Just wish there was an actual epilogue to give some solid closure
