Publisher's summary

Inside you'll listen to:

  • A cinematic tutorial on why the best friend (Simon) always loses out to the bad boy (Jace)
  • The benefits (no, really!) of incest...at least in literature
  • What we can read between the lines of Alec and Magnus’ European vacation
  • The importance of friendship, art, humor, and rebellion

And more, from the virtues of Downworlders to the naughty side of Shadowhunting. Number-one New York Times best-selling author Cassandra Clare created the Mortal Instruments in 2004 with City of Bones (Simon & Schuster, 2007). Since then, the series has grown to five books, with a sixth due in 2014, and been joined by two spinoff trilogies and an upcoming film starring Jamie Campbell Power and Lily Collins.

Featuring stories by Holly Black, Kendare Blake, Gwenda Bond, Sarah Rees Brennan, Rachel Caine, Sarah Cross, Kami Garcia, Michelle Hodkin, Kelly Link, Kate Milford, Diana Peterfreund, Sara Ryan, Scott Tracey, and Robin Wasserman.

Should have read the description first

I received an alert from audible informing me that another book had been released by one of my favorite authors. I purchased the book without a second thought only to find that it was more like a study of the history of this genre and a look into the inspiration for the Mortal Instruments series. Not what I wanted and really sorry I bought it.

HUGE waste of time!

Super boring. I really wish I had not spent money on this. for me it was a huge waste of time.
When I bought this I was expecting more info about the characters not a college like lecture.

A great analysis

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I recommend this book to fans of, and those who are interested in an analysis of Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

The narrators did a great job of getting the point of view of the authors across to the reader. I also enjoyed the fact that there were multiple narrators for this book.

Any additional comments?

The book is sold at a good price and worth it. I bought this to complete my Cassandra Clare collection. I don't usually enjoy analyses of books but this was an enjoyable insight into the shadowhunter and downworlder stories.

I adore this collection!

This amalgamation of essays is truly amazing and so endearing! Each one touches ona vastly different topic, yet they all tie in so perfectly. All revolving around the plot, characters and sheer brilliance of the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices series!

this is the backstory of how the series came to be

as an actor...I love knowing the backstory of how this series came to be.
.
As someone Sephardic Moroccan Jewish, Cherokee and Irish mostly...I loved hearing how the elements came together.
.
being orthodox Jewish (modox is the closest to my observance), I see us as the light side and visible side of the bound in service to HaShem G-D with our mitzvot like the shadowhunters are the invisible fighting the dark and bound to HaShem G-D with the laws.
.
it's wonderful to hear how it came to be.

Should have read the comments

As most people, I clicked on the “next in your series” and was expecting another book. Was not expecting a lecture. Pretty disappointed I wasted my monthly credit.

Should have read what it was

This is not what I thought it was. I thought it was another book in the series. Disappointed I bought it.
