I'm an audiophile, what can I say? My favoriate narrators would be Frederick Davidson, Roy Dotrice, Jim Dale, Nadia May, and Scott Brick.
Patricia C. Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles are an incredibly fun series. I love her wit, and the way she throws so many references to canonical fairytales into her writing in such an off-hand way. The characters that she has created with Mendanbar, Cimorene, and Kazul, not to mention Telemain, Morwen, and the cats, are some of the funniest and pleasantest that I have encountered in children's literautre.
I'm not a huge fan of full cast narrations as quite often they can be rather cheesy. In this case, however, the cast was wonderful. My only complaint is that not all of the character’s voices are the same from book to book. In some cases, this may not be a huge change, but in others (Cimorene and Kazul, for instance) it is very noticeable. Still, they all do an excellent job. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a light, humorous read - especially if you like fantasy or fairytales.
The amount of time it takes is far to long. the exposition is non stop and completely over done.
once you have read the book the story in memory is amazing.
the acting was very clumsy. sorry to say. but I loved the voices of everyone other than the main characters.
do not listen if your attention span is short.
I love this series and the audiobooks are fun to listen to. The only little problem with the audiobooks was that after the first one, they changed many of the actors and it was a very distinctive change at that.
The other little problem was with the magician Telemain. Sometimes you can understand half of what he says, but most of the time, the technical babble that comes out of his mouth is very hard to follow. King Medebar will sometimes translate for Cimmorine and us, but not as much as I needed.
The story itself is wonderfully written and the dramatization was well done.
The main actors are mediocre, but the supporting voice cast is God-awful. Telemain sounds like a drunken clown. It is one of the worst voice renditions I have ever heard. It is impossible to listen to. Avoid.
This is a story I have loved it since childhood! Everything was fantastic, and I loved that there was a full cast. Telemanns voice was a little doofy though, and I couldn't get over the comical nature of it. Besides that; I would absolutely recommend this book and narration!!
The voice of the character Telemane nearly ruined the audiobook. Unlike most odd voices I found this one got more annoying the longer I listened, rather than becoming used to it. Other than that the performance and story were just as good as the first book.
Bought this and the first in the group for my nieces and nephew they ate it up!!! kept them happy on the drive and I enjoyed it too. They were very happy to listen to this on the way home, after listening to the first one !!!
This series is just plain fun. The characters are witty and exemplify good morals. The plot is fun and moves along a a good clip. It's full of little inside jokes and references to classic stories.
The narration is really very good, but some of the voices seemed a little off or forced to me, especially the dragons.
I found this full cast version in and finished listening during commute.
What fun! I liked the idea of enchanted forrest and the unique characters. I wish I could have read this when I was young but I still enjoyed it as an adult!
