    "Good Series for Boys"

Michael and clan pick up where the first left off, on the run to save his mother and stop the Elgen plan from "Hatching". The romance between Michael and Taylor is more in the background, yet other characters are fleshed out more creating new interest.

This series is a mixture of Firestarter (Stephen King) meets Percy Jackson. Excellent series for boys grades 4-12. Enjoy!

    "Excellent!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Rise of the Elgen to be better than the print version?

I don't know; I do very little print

Who was your favorite character and why?

I thought the stinky guy was intriguing

What does Fred Berman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

keeping it moving along; didn't get sleepy from sitting and reading

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the stinky guy sacrificed himself; also the friendships were moving and how they all stuck together.

    Any additional comments?

These are really good books. I highly recommend. The premise of the power with the rats was very unique, kind of disgusting and very interesting all at the same time.

"Huge setting change from the first book"

Most of the events of this book take place in South America. It seems largely accurate in it's descriptions of places, but the setting change is so jarring from the first book. Michael Vey doesn't stay in Idaho, or even in America, but takes the fight to the evil ElGen corporation.

Again, Michael's condition is largely ignored throughout the book. Which may be the point. Dr Hatch is again back as the main villian and the ElGen have developed new weapons and tactics in the 13 hours since we left our heroes at the end of the first book.

The setting change, while jarring, does move the book away from the cliches of the first book. The heroes are virtuous to a fault and the bad guys are evil to the hilt.

All in all it remains a typical teen hero fantasy in an unusual setting.

"Part 2, and Dr Hatch is still a douche!"
What made the experience of listening to Rise of the Elgen the most enjoyable?

Again, all the different character voices. Austin's was my favorite. He was so excitable :)

What did you like best about this story?

The Bowl. Weird, right? Just to picture something like that is crazy

Have you listened to any of Fred Berman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

yes, part1 of this series. There is no comparison, they are the same

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Again, no extreme reaction in either direction. Just a really, really good book

    Story
"Watch out for all the rats."

Another adventure into the land of the Electriclan and Elgen. I enjoyed this story and for the most part it flew by. The only part I felt was a little on the long side was when the story was from Dr. Hatch's point of view. I think Dr. Hatch's megalomaniac part should have been shortened some, this caused me to only give the book 4 stars. It's fascinating to see what different powers the kids have and how they grow, there was also great character development. Story does leave at a cliff hanger, but I plan on reading more anyway. Narrator is excellent as usual, I have always enjoyed Fred Berman.

"Rats! This story just keeps getting better!"
If you could sum up Rise of the Elgen in three words, what would they be?

    Action, Hunter, Electric

What was one of the most memorable moments of Rise of the Elgen?

I love knowing there is a secret society trying to help them and they are relying on the elctroclan to "Save the World"

Have you listened to any of Fred Berman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, this was my first - but after listening to all of this series now - he was my favorite out of all of them. He captured the the accents of some of the characters I believed they should have been - gave it a real spy feel to it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I just enjoyed this book a lot! Very entertaining.

    Any additional comments?

First of all, I enjoyed reading this book - not only do I have the hard copy, but I both on kindle. Then because my 14 yr old boy is academically behind and I know he could relate to this character - I love that I can download the book to audible for him to listen to the story on his phone.
