Publisher's Summary

The body of a young girl is discovered in a field of wheat, her flesh mutilated by telltale claw marks. The Wolf has broken the peace.

When Valerie learns that her sister has been killed by the legendary creature, she finds herself at the center of a dark mystery, one that has plagued her village for generations. It is revealed that the werewolf lives among them, and everyone in the village immediately becomes a suspect. Could her secret love, Peter, be behind the attacks on her town? Is it her betrothed, Henry? Or someone even closer to her?

As the men in the village hunt for the beast, Valerie turns to her grandmother for help. She gives Valerie a handmade red riding cloak, and guides her through the web of lies and deception that has held her town together for so long. Will Valerie discover the werewolf's identity before the town is ripped apart?

This is a dangerous new vision of a classic fairy tale, and the happy ending could be hard to find.

    Which scene was your favorite?

the scene of father soloumn when he tells them to doubt each other

Did Red Riding Hood inspire you to do anything?

not particularly but it was good

I really wanted to like this book because the movie was 10/10 .. maybe because the relationship between peter and valerie didn't convince me

"4/22/11 - still not the whole story"

The story: The narration was good, but the story is only so-so. I was surprised to hear musical cues in the beginning, but after getting over the corniness of it all, it was OK. Knowing this is a “teen” novel, I was surprised how simplistic the language was and how broken down, incomplete, or lacking the descriptions were. Although this book was to expand on the movie, it felt as if it fell short. It was as if I was giving you a very detailed description of the movie I just saw and acted out the parts I recalled or really liked. All-in-all, what was listened to was enjoyed, but I would only listen to this story once.

All that said, I’m VERY disappointed in Audible. I read the two reviews that stated this was not a complete story and that the reader would have to wait until after March 20th to go online and get the ending of the story. I could not find anything from Audible in the description of this story to distinguish if this was the COMPLETE story, or if this was still the partial story missing the ending. I purchased this story on 4/22/11, thinking, “it’s been a month and this movie is no long playing on the main screen in Dayton, OH – I should be safe.” I was wrong. This was not the completed version of the story. I was halfway back from traveling when I reached the end of Chapter 29. Needless to say, I’m a little more than miffed.

    "Marvolous! (13 year old girl)"

This audio book caught my eye because I had been meaning to watch the movie as it had recently come out in theaters. As I listened to the intro, I was imparted with a joyful curiosity upon discovering that the movie was not based on the book, and the book was not even based on the movie, rather they had been a joint effort.
I listened to the first twenty minutes or so of it as I went to bed last night, was delighted with the plot unraveling before me, but I had simply planned to finish the book in this fashion over the next two weeks or so (just listening to bits here and there). This plan did not follow through as when a woke up this morning and listened some more and the morning passed away. By mid-afternoon, I had finished the book

Having thoroughly enjoyed the story, I am going to get my mom to listen to it (and possibly my brothers) and then we are going to go see a movie together.

Overall I would totally recommend this audio-book (I really enjoyed the reader). However I must say one should be careful in sharing the story with a younger audience, keeping in mind that the movie is pg13 and considered a horror film, there are many gruesome depictions of slaughter. But this does not mean the book is as pointless a thrill as many horror stories, underlying themes of doubt, love, community, and grief spiral through the tale.

    "Surprise Ending"

What can I say, I'm a sucker for fairy tales turned into novels. I loved this book and I'd listen to it over and over again, but there's one problem....THERE'S NO ENDING!!! Seriously people, this makes me mad and I'm hoping that they have an ending to it soon, but I don't want to have to buy it...I think it should be sent to me for free, since there was no mention what so ever about NO ENDING! When you get to the end of the book, it directs you to the another website for an ending, which isn't going to be avail able until after the movie is released. WHAT A BUMMER!!!!

    "Spellbinding"

At first I was a bit unsure about this novel, being based of a screenplay. But it very much surprised me. It was a delightfully full novel with incredibly real characters. It was dark and serious at times and at others soft and sweet. Erin Moon is brilliant in her narration and no two characters sound alike. However, I must warn any new buyer that it isn't finished. You wont get the full ending until after March 14 after the movie has aired. Then, as the audio tells you, go to the website so you can get the bonus chapter for the complete ending. But anyway, it is a wonderful novel that is so dark and rich I would buy it again. This is one fairy tale that has come into a whole new light.
