Publisher's summary

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal.

But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.

Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

The Tough Stuff.

Pushing The Limits is a surprisingly beautiful tale of two teenagers who are dealt a bad hand. I loved hearing these two overcome their crappy situations and figure out how to love themselves and how to be loved.

There is quite a bit of teen angst that I feel a bit removed from (being 20 something) but overall I think its a story almost everyone can love.

Tara Sands performance is a little high pitched for my taste but MacLeod Andrews makes up for it.

I suggest you give this book a chance!

The narrator was awesome!

It's rarely that I listen to a book and feel like I am so much better off than if I would've just read it. In this case, the narrator of Pushing the Limits took it from an entertaining YA read to a quite emotional experience. There were parts when I actually cried, and it was all due to the narrator's touching delivery. The story was good. It's not light and fluffy, but it's definitely worth reading.

Touching teen romance with suspenseful drama

As a mother of teenagers I like to read young adult novels, and Pushing the Limits kept me riveted and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire book, couldn't put it down. The back and forth narration format allowed me to connect strongly with both Echo and Noah, and watching them help and heal each other in the context of their family issues was satisfying.

There were times I found Tara Sand's voice a bit grating at times, but her pacing and emotion would soon sink me back into the story. She sounded a lot like Kat Denning to me. MacLeod Andrews never disappoints when voicing young, male characters and his portrayal of Noah was sufficiently sexy yet vulnerable and even had me wiping away a tear at the end. The soothing, yet angsty timbre of his voice was a perfect complement to Tara Sand's Echo.

I would definitely recommend this book to both adults and young adults, as it combined a sufficiently realistic high school feel with mystery (what happened to Echo), heart wrenching drama (Noah's need for his family) and flashes of humor as the story unfolded.

The differing characters' points of view

What about MacLeod Andrews and Tara Sands ’s performance did you like?

MacLeod Andrews' growly voice as Noah. Ms. Sands's performance was okay, but was a bit girlish for me.

Perfect

What made the experience of listening to Pushing the Limits the most enjoyable?

It felt less like an audiobook and more like sitting across the table from my friends as they told me about their day.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that both characters were flawed, that even though they started out with nefarious intent, and went about gaining their own ends in the wrong way, they ended up accepting that their nemesis wasn't their enemy and working through their issues on their own.

What does MacLeod Andrews and Tara Sands bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Tara does an absolutely brilliant job with Echo's sarcasm, and MacLeod's reading of one scene in particular made me have to pull off into a parking lot because I was crying too hard to see the road in front of me.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommend both the book and the audio version.

An Emotional Rollercoaster Ride - Great Story!

What did you love best about Pushing the Limits?

The story was very well written....very emotional - both the writing and performances. I can't say enough about this book. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook from start to finish. I had a hard time putting it down.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Pushing the Limits?

The most memorable moment in the book was when Noah met up with his brothers at the fountain around the homes his parents had built for Habitat for Humanity and he was invited home for lunch with them. Noah finally got to know the boys foster parents and finally understood how much the boy's foster parents loved them and cared for them and perhaps THEY were what was best for his brothers.

What does MacLeod Andrews and Tara Sands bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

MacLeod Andrews and Tara Sands did such a wonderful job with this book. You could hear the emotions in their voices. The emotion brought life to the book. I have never enjoyed an audiobook like this one. Between the story and their narration - I was hooked from the time I hit play.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

My tag line would be exactly as the review on the front of the book. This book IS a riveting and emotional ride. I chuckled at times and I cried at times. I even sobbed through a couple of chapters.

Great book

I love this book, I will definitely listen to again. Can I just say I'm in love with the male narrator. He could read anything to me. He was perfect for this book, and brought Noah's character to life. The female narrator was ok, when I first started listening to it her voice for Ashley drove me nuts but I'm glad a stuck with it.

Emotional Rollercoaster

Wow! What an amazing audiobook. Pushing the Limits broke my heart as it doesn't hold back with the punches to the gut. Noah and Echo have gone through a lot in their lives and they try to figure out their futures and move on from their grief and trauma, they fall for each other. Their individual pain was so well written and nearly had me in tears. Echo's trauma absolutely killed me as her memories slowly came back to her. Noah just wanted his family back as he tried to figure out his future and getting his custody of his brothers. I just loved everything about this story and its been a while since a book has gotten to me like this. I also really enjoyed the narrators. Especially Tara Sands. I felt every one of Echo's emotions and turmoil. MacLeod Andrews voice was pretty deep for a high school student, but I still think its fine.
