Publisher's summary

The second book in Marie Lu’s New York Times best-selling Legend trilogy - perfect for fans of The Hunger Games and Divergent!

June and Day arrive in Vegas just as the unthinkable happens: The Elector Primo dies, and his son Anden takes his place. With the Republic edging closer to chaos, the two join a group of Patriot rebels eager to help Day rescue his brother and offer passage to the Colonies. They have only one request - June and Day must assassinate the new Elector.

It’s their chance to change the nation, to give voice to a people silenced for too long. But as June realizes this Elector is nothing like his father, she’s haunted by the choice ahead. What if Anden is a new beginning? What if revolution must be more than loss and vengeance, anger and blood - what if the Patriots are wrong?

In this highly-anticipated sequel to the New York Times best seller Legend, Lu delivers a breathtaking thriller with high stakes and cinematic action.

Predictable

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I read Legend the first book in this series, enjoyed it, and bought Prodigy which is the 2nd. This book was ok. It wasn't as good as the first book, and was rather predictable.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It made me want to buy book 3.

Did Prodigy inspire you to do anything?

Buy book 3.

Any additional comments?

Even though this one was a little slow going, it is a necessary read, to continue with book 3.

Stellar follow up to Legend

This is a great follow up to book one. It's picks up right where it left off, no confusion. Day & June have both gone through so much and the plot continues to thicken w/war. You can't help but want their lives to settle, for things to calm down & give them a chance to grow up and grow together.

Still my favorite YA book couple. Perfect narration by both narrators. They truly bring these 2 young people to life. I wasn't sure I liked June's voice at first. However, it grew on me as June comes from a privileged background and required a voice that could represent this. Why? Because the difference in their upbringing is a striking contrast to one another.

These books are worth your time & money. Enjoy.

Great sequel!

I enjoyed this book as much as Legend (the first book). The characters and plot just draw you in and keep you involved until the end. It was hard to stop listening. Can't wait for book 3 to be released!

Didn't love it, but will read the last book

Audiobook Review: I really enjoyed listening to Steven Kaplan and Mariel Stern narrate Prodigy by Marie Lu. I’ve decided that I like male audiobook narrators more than female narrators, and I’m not entirely sure why, but it holds true with Steven Kaplan narrating Day’s parts. He does a nice job differentiating between the characters, even more so than Mariel Stern did. I liked Mariel Stern for the part of June because she has almost a lilt to her voice that sounds right for June. The audiobook is a little over ten hours long, but it felt like it went faster than that. I didn’t listen to Legend, so I’m not sure how I’ll read the third book in this trilogy. I liked the audio enough that I’d be happy reading it that way.

Book Review: Prodigy picks up right where Legend left off. I had a hard time getting into it when I was reading it in the traditional sense, which is why I switched to the audiobook. I don’t know why I was having a hard time reading it because once I started the audio I was really into the story.

We learn a lot more about June and Day and the world is developed even more. I liked getting more information about Anden, the Republic, and the Patriots. I’m actually kind of torn about Anden because I didn’t want to like him, but I really do. He and June spend more time together in Prodigy and their interactions add a great level of intensity to the story. June and Day are more a part than together in Prodigy, but it made the scenes where they are together even more enjoyable to read. There’s lots of angst between them in this book.

I didn’t love Prodigy which makes me feel like the only person in the book world who didn’t love it. I can’t even put my finger on what it was missing. A few parts kind of dragged, and it just wasn’t as good as Legend. The end of book is what really saved it for me. There’s lots of action and excitement towards the end. The actual ending, however, just about broke my heart. I have NO idea what to expect in the last book. I’m hoping that something will miraculously change so the story ends the way I want it to, but right now, I’m not so sure. What an emotional ending.

A Great 2nd Book

Where does Prodigy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I like it a lot! I've been lucky with Dystopian books and so they all rank equally high on my list!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like Day and June because they are both smart characters and easy to like since they are the main characters,

What about Steven Kaplan’s performance did you like?

I like the female narrator more than Steven's performance. He's a bit mono toned. But at-least he speaks clear and smooth.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Then enemy of my enemy is my enemy!

Any additional comments?

This 2nd book was very good and also kind of short. I wanted more. The ending is a bit odd and I'm guessing there will be a 3rd book, but I'm curious how it will go. I'm also guessing there will probably only be one more book, a trilogy. I do suggest this book series though to people that enjoy dystopian books!

Poorly written, simpering narration

Would you try another book from Marie Lu and/or Steven Kaplan?

No

Has Prodigy turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. I like YA Dystopian novels.

Would you be willing to try another one of Steven Kaplan’s performances?

No.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Boredom

Any additional comments?

The book is weakly written, and would have benefited from a strongly-voiced narration to bolster the ethos of the characters.

Wow! An ending you can't miss!

Where does Prodigy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's probably in my top 5.

What does Steven Kaplan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The voices and performance match the characters perfectly.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

June and Day find themselves in situations that you think they are just simply not getting out of this one..... and then they do, sort of. The ending to the second book is shocking and you will either hate or love it. I can't wait for book 3!

Great Sequel minus the gay relationship.

I had this book on pre-order on Amazon but somehow I could listen to it on Audible before it was released. Sweet! Anyways it was a very enjoyable sequel. I enjoyed the equal mix of action and love story. June is a level-headed, intelligent girl who is easy to cheer for. Day is like a dystopian Robin Hood. The thing that irritated me about the book was that Marie Lu chose to add a gay side story in. I was very disappointed by that decision. Thats why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I dont agree with add that into YA fiction and in no way enhanced the story. I hope she gets more negative responses for that decision and chooses to leave it out of the third book which I look forward to reading.
