Publisher's summary

There are worse things than death, worse people too. The "talk" was bad enough, but how many teens get told that they're a goddess? When her mom tells her, Persephone is sure her mother has lost her mind. It isn't until Boreas, the god of winter, tries to abduct her that she realizes her mother was telling the truth. Hades rescues her, and in order to safely bring Persephone to the Underworld he marks her as his bride. But Boreas will stop at nothing to get Persephone. Despite her growing feelings for Hades, Persephone wants to return to the living realm. Persephone must find a way to defeat Boreas and reclaim her life.

I loved it!

The author provided me with a complimentary copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I loved this audiobook! When I saw that the author had narrated her own book, my first thought was "this is going to be an awful book to listen to." Boy, was I ever wrong!! Kaitlin Bevis is amazing! Not only is the story good but she is an amazing narrator to boot! I loved the underworld and Hades and want to explore the relationship between him and Persephone more. I can't wait to hear what else Kaitlin Bevis has in store for us in this series!

Great listen!

This was my first book about Greek mythology. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it because I wasn't sure at first. This is one I would listen to over and over again. It makes me need to listen to more in this genre!

Amazing take on a classic tale!

Would you listen to Persephone again? Why?

YES. I would definitely listen to Persephone again and I plan on doing that many times. The story was wonderful and the characters were deep. I was able to get into the story very easily.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Persephone?

Hades kissing Persephone and marking her as his bride, omg. *chills* Didn't even know him yet but I fell in love right there.

What about Kaitlin Bevis’s performance did you like?

I loved how she added tone and snark to her character's dialogue. I didn't have to squint and figure things out myself, because Bevis let me know exactly what was going on at all times.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, of course. But how am I supposed to share these moments without spoiling the whole story?

Any additional comments?

I loved the new take on the classic Greek myth of Persephone and Hades. Bevis did a wonderful job of taking a fairly-well-known story and turning it into something new and exciting!

Interesting

Was a interesting story but was too fast some scenes should have been slowed down. Also the narrator speaks to fast which gets in the way of the experience at times.

Audible book

I purchased the book with Audible. I loved the book but the narration was not so great. The reading was so rushed and way to fast to follow at times. The book itself was worth the read but I wouldn't recommend the audible version.

A Myth With A Modern Twist

If you could sum up Persephone in three words, what would they be?

touching, magical, and it's a story you can't put down.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hades was by far my favorite character, due to his quirky personality and his caring but cold persona.

Which scene was your favorite?

I love the book from beginning to end. It's hard to pick a favorite part because everything was so well written.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened and read this book in one sitting. I did it with all Kaitlin's books. Every one of her stories is too captivating to put down.

Any additional comments?

I would recommend this series to anyone who loves mythology or a quick read. This is one of my favorite series I've ever stumbled upon.

Persephone

While this book has some excellent ideas and there's a good structure, it became predictable, I got frustrated with the main character often and her diction was a bit annoying.

Read the book

I ended up reading the book version simply because 90 minutes into the audio and I couldn't take the narrator's voice anymore. For me it sounded like the narrator recorded in a completely empty room. Her voice had a bit of an echo to it which was distracting. Now I'm willing to say that could be a download issue but it hasn't happened before. A bigger problem was she speed narrated, almost as though she couldn't wait to get through the book. I had to slow down the narration speed so there was a small pause between dialogue or even scene changes; and you can't tell the difference between character voices. All these things aside the story itself is well written with an interesting take on the gods of Greek mythology. I definitely recommend this, especially to anyone who knows Greek myths.
