Publisher's summary

Rigg is well trained at keeping secrets. Only his father knows the truth about Rigg’s strange talent for seeing the paths of people’s pasts. But when his father dies, Rigg is stunned to learn just how many secrets Father had kept from him - secrets about Rigg’s own past, his identity, and his destiny. And when Rigg discovers that he has the power not only to see the past, but also to change it, his future suddenly becomes anything but certain.

Rigg’s birthright sets him on a path that leaves him caught between two factions, one that wants him crowned and one that wants him dead. He will be forced to question everything he thinks he knows, choose who to trust, and push the limits of his talent... or forfeit control of his destiny.

Critic reviews

"The implications of the boys' power to manipulate the past unfold cleverly…, feeding into the Machiavellian political intrigue for a pulse-pounding climax….Card's many fans will be thrilled by this return to his literary roots.” ( Kirkus)

Wonderful and not for everyone

OSC is as much a philosopher as a Sci-Fi / Fantasy writer and imbues his writing with ethics, speculative physics and relative morality. Nowhere is this MORE evident than this trilogy. The narrative is long and detailed, the action sequences short and relatively superfluous to the story.

However, if you enjoy long trips down the rabbit hole, Alice, then this will not disappoint. That said, Stefan Ridnicki’s deep and melodic bass voice, one of my personal faves as a voice performer, is not built for the falsetto required for certain females and children. ;-).

Amazing book

I loved it. Couldn't stop listening. I didn't want it to end. Incredible story. Card's unique style had me hooked from the very beginning.

The book is an interesting view of fimetravel. Nice story. Not very far away from Treason.

A woven tale

it's a great book, with new ideas and theories. excellently told and performed, but at times over explained.
I think that anyone that reads this doesn't have a doctorate in most of the Sciences and therefore we have to rely on the competence of the writer. I find that it's often better how the story flows then making it all make absolute scientific sense

I had trouble keeping up with to and fro in time.

Where does Pathfinder rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was only so so, I just could not get on with the long chats about going forward and backward in time, time and time again. I think that one explanation would have been enough. I just wish that the story was more engaging, but you always knew it was just a story.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would take out all the boring talk and just got on with the story.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

The various narrators were good in their telling, but no one can make a really good job if they have to keep repeating them selves

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No not really, I think I was just glad when it had finished.

Any additional comments?

This is not a book I would recommend, unless you like really repetitive story telling. If you do like that kind of book, go for it. Not one of Orson's best I am afraid.

lost ending

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I really liked the story and the concept was very good and the performance was excellenct however the characters need honing or more of a challenge as they seem invincible.

Great book...

Interested premise, with two interwoven stories/timelines. Looking for the next book in this series. One of my favorite authors.
