Publisher's summary

Rigg is well trained at keeping secrets. Only his father knows the truth about Rigg’s strange talent for seeing the paths of people’s pasts. But when his father dies, Rigg is stunned to learn just how many secrets Father had kept from him - secrets about Rigg’s own past, his identity, and his destiny. And when Rigg discovers that he has the power not only to see the past, but also to change it, his future suddenly becomes anything but certain.

Rigg’s birthright sets him on a path that leaves him caught between two factions, one that wants him crowned and one that wants him dead. He will be forced to question everything he thinks he knows, choose who to trust, and push the limits of his talent... or forfeit control of his destiny.

Critic reviews

"The implications of the boys' power to manipulate the past unfold cleverly…, feeding into the Machiavellian political intrigue for a pulse-pounding climax….Card's many fans will be thrilled by this return to his literary roots.” ( Kirkus)

stopped before a completion point

held my attention, but the back story was under supported.
the stopping point of the story was not supported enough to keep it from feeling like a natural stopping point.

Outstanding!

Classic OSCard. Truly along the lines of all his great works. Cannot wait until Book 2.

This was a fun start to a new series.

I'm coming back to write this review after just having written my review to the second book in the series.

I really liked this first book, it setup a fun new world with characters who have interesting abilities. I finished it and immediately went into the second book. However - fair warning - the second book is utterly terrible. I don't know if I'll continue on to the third.

Multiple Narrators Duh!

I see a lot of complaints about the narrators but the store is told by multiple characters each with their own narrator. It was surprising at first because the first part is all told by a single character but you get used to it. Really enjoyed this book

It’s a time travel book.

Time travel has a bunch of problems that unless you do it you will not be able to explore. Overall liked it a lot.

Wow!

Not gonna tell you anything. Just read it. You’ll thank me later.

Also, what good is a nine-hand-high slat fence?

Enjoyable

I’ve read the book a few times before, and listening to the audio book helped bring it into a new light. It was very well read, and I will be listening to it again.
