Publisher's summary

Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours. But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

Fun book!

A paranormal YA that doesn't take itself too seriously!

I listened to the audio version of Paranormalcy, and I was really worried that the teenager-y voice was going to grind on my nerves, but it didn't. Not at all! In fact, since I'm not a teen of the 2k generation, I would not have had the right sarcastic tone that the reader, Emily Eiden, brought to Evie.

Kiersten White brought the perfect balance of sarcastic wit and fun first love with dangerous monsters, death and destruction. Especially at the very beginning of the book, Evie reminded me of an updated Buffy - coming from me, that's a huge compliment!

This was a lighter read for those of us who usually gravitate toward the heavier, dark prophecy type paranormal series. It was a nice break.

Loved it!

This book is really fun, and Eve is something like a sparkling (human) teen version of Hellboy in pink high heeled boots. I simply loved her, and the story. The ending is kind of predictable and rushed, but the book is worth the credit.

Move over Buffy

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would and have recommended this book to friends. I enjoy teen fiction and urban paranomal stories are high on my list.

What did you like best about this story?

In this tale, we learn about Evie, the odd and talented secret agent who tries to live her teenaged life while also trying to protect people against questionable paranormals. From the beginning to the end, we have a heroine who not only realizes the value of questioning the rules she is given but also who makes strong judgement calls that help her stay true to herself.

Have you listened to any of Emily Eiden’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not had the pleasure of listening to Eiden outside of this series, but I really enjoyed her portrayal of Evie.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, but not because it wasn't good. I didn't want it to end.

Any additional comments?

This is a funny, funny book. The characters are learning about themselves as they grow and they are humorous along the way. There is a good balance of the drama and comedy and I love this strong heroine.

It was easy and fun, and quite entertaining. I wouldn't listen to it again, though.

Fabulous blast from the past

I read this book when I was younger and worried a bit that rereading it would pop the fantasy of it being such a good book. No problems whatsoever. This book is still amazing and the narrator managed to further improve it with her spectacular performance. Sassy 16-year-old Evie was brought to life in the best possible way.
