Publisher's summary

Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours. But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

Great Book

I really enjoyed this book other than listening to the girl performing. Her voice was annoying to me.

Top ten

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes this is the first of a vary good series, Kiersten White did a very good job with the development and complexity of the characters in this series not just the first one they are all good.

What other book might you compare Paranormalcy to and why?

If you like unconditional young love with a paranormal twist then you will love Significance by Shelly Crane, it is a series that will grab your imagination and will not let you go. Cris Dukehart did a wonderful job narrating this book she invokes more emotion than you would think potable, I rely love this one.

Have you listened to any of Emily Eiden’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

just the other books in this series and she did a good job.

Perfect Package

I love Kiersten White’s recent works and I took a chance on PARANORMALCY, and I’m glad I did! Evie and Lind create the perfect picture of how I wish teen relationships could be portrayed in all stories! White’s ability to mix the real with the surreal world in this story is refreshing, and felt like a contemporary story more than fantasy. All of the characters were real and relatable despite being immortals, “monsters”, and magic wielders. Even Viv, the biggest monster in the story is likeable when we see her through Evie’s eyes. I can’t wait to read the rest of the story in the next books!

I can't believe I loved it so much!

Would you consider the audio edition of Paranormalcy to be better than the print version?

Probably not, Emily Eiden is enthralling. She brings the story to life!

What other book might you compare Paranormalcy to and why?

Not a book, but think about the movie Clueless. Cher is flighty and silly at times, yet very smart and caring. You can't help but love her. For me, that is Evie. Full of surprises.

What does Emily Eiden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her Evie is so cute! Fun, sassy, feisty. Her other character voices are great. She does a few accents that are just fine. I also really dug her Lish voice. Not easy to be a computer, and one that doesn't drive you nuts.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Poor Lish. That's all I can say.

Any additional comments?

The humor mixed with touching, serious moments was really excellent. This book made me laugh out loud. It painted pictures with such great detail, and you cannot help but love Evie!

A Fun Escape!

This story is a fun, entertaining diversion to pass the time during workouts and other activities. I am an adult who reads (and listens to) a lot of YA for the entertainment value, and I recommend this story. Decent writing, engaging characters, and a fun plot. Good narration by Emily Eiden. Her voice is very suitable to the teen girls in stories like this one that she usually narrates. Overall, this was engaging and interested me enough that I will catch the continuation of Evie's story ("Supernaturally") at some point soon.

Fun

This story had a lot of potential to be dark but it wasn't. It was fun, funny, and a delight to listen to. Ms. Widen did an awesome job and Ms. White captured the teenage spirit. Well done!

just another paranormal teen movie

while I love all manner of paranormal beasts and creatures represented in this well written and performed book, there is still no getting over the fact that it is definitely a young adult/teen influenced literary piece.

Why Did I Wait So Long?

Right now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to listen to this book. I've had it in my Wish List over 6 months and I'm really mad I left it there so long. This book was wonderful, and the narrator was great too. Very rarely do I find a book that can make me (both) laugh out loud and cry. But, this was one of those pieces of work.

Kiersten White is wonderful at making you understand the true emotions that her characters feel. The love that Evie feels for Lish (her best friend who is also a mermaid), the loathing she feels for Reth (a faerie that seems to stalk her) and the confusion that Lend (an unknown paranormal creature who can steal the appearance of others) brings into her life. Plus, I admire any author that can bring a young adult book to life without any cursing. Instead you get Lish's hilarious monotone voice "bleep"ing. Just try not to laugh when you hear it!

If you're looking for a book to listen to in small intervals during your commute, this is NOT the book for you. This book sucks you in and leaves you wanting more.
