Publisher's Summary

Daemon's determined to prove what he feels for Katy is more than a product of their bizarro connection. So she's sworn him off, even though he's running more hot than cold these days. But they've got bigger problems. The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that Katy and Daemon are linked, Katy's a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who's got a secret of his own. He knows what's happened to Katy and he can help, but to do so, Katy has to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, Katy's falling for Daemon. Hard.

Katy's seen someone who shouldn't be alive. And she has to tell Daemon, even though he'll never stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them - from her?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies....

"An excellent turn into suspense and thrill"

At the beginning of the series, you might be lured into thinking this is a YA teen romance. Well it is and it is very much not. In the second novel, much more Divergent esq., Armentrout does a fabulous job broadening the focus of the novel with surprising turns. Daemon and Kat are back and they stop the petty fighting and unite on a common goal -- can they overcome the DoD, who can the trust?

Okay, Eyre does a great job narrating. If you are are a fan of hunger games, divergent, steelheart, etc. You will love the series and book 2. Give it a read.

    "Onyx is pure gold"

This book is simply A-MAZING! I thought Obsidian was good, but then I listened to Onyx and was blown away. Daemon and Katy are back and better than ever! There were so many twists and turns and OMG moments that this one actually took my breath away. And that ending….whoa! This is such a well written and intense story that many times I forgot this was a YA book. Jennifer Armentrout is an extremely talented writer and this series is a must listen for anyone that enjoys YA PNR.

    "Nothing So Dark as Onyx"

I came back to pick up the story of Daemon and Katy only mildly interested in their exploits. I was blown away with the twists and turns. The characters really matured and discovered new facets in themselves and each other. The dangers are magnified and more complex. Literally, the story captivated me, turning into an all-nighter. Now onto the next book in the series.

    Story
"Pretty good addition to the series :)"

    3.5-4 stars

This was a pretty good addition to the series. The story itself had a lot happening and moved the overall storyline (DoD vs Luxen vs. Arun) along nicely. Katy and Daemon's relationship...not so much. I was rather disappointed in Katy in this story. In the first book, Katy seemed very accepting and mature but in this book she pretty much lost all of that.

First of all, Katy determined that Daemon only wants to date her because of the "bond" that formed between them when he healed her. She's determined that Daemon doesn't REALLY want her and is just being manipulated by his unwanted feelings. Of course Katy won't listen to him when he confesses to wanting her since they first met and won't believe that he only treated her so badly to run her off because humans don't do well around Luxen. So Katy decides to deny it all and when a new guy, Blake, shows up in school, she decides to date him. She quickly realizes that she doesn't feel anything for him compared to Daemon but she keeps torturing them all by continuing to see Blake. Then it turns out that Blake is aware of what's happening to Katy and claims to be able to help her deal with the changes. Suddenly, Katy's trusting Blake way more than she should and is pushing Daemon away. The whole situation was pretty messed up and it made me dislike Katy almost as much as I liked her in the first book.

Outside of the drama that Katy kicks up with her inability to handle her life or the truth of her feelings, there are other issues that have to be dealt with. Daemon actually turns into a pretty good hero...he's not perfect yet but I like the way he's developing and look forward to seeing him in future books. Katy seems to have realized her mistakes so I can only hope that in the next book, she'll be more like she was in book #1. Overall, I found this story to be pretty enjoyable and even if Katy was being annoying, I'd still recommend it and I do intend to continue the series. :)

I loved the story and we see a softer side to Daemon as he tries to woo Katie. I wanted to shake Katie so many times during this story. The ending is bittersweet.

    "Good Book. Awful Narrator"
What did you like best about Onyx? What did you like least?

I feel the story was lacking in some way. Can't really pin point what it was, however it was entertaining and I will be listening to the next book to see what happens in the series!

How could the performance have been better?

I really dislike the narrator. She has a nasally quiet voice. Her inflections make me cringe at times. I think I would enjoy the book more if I read it or there was another narrator.

    "Ugh! It's day-mon, not demon"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would definitely replace Justine Eyre as narrator. She seems to think everyone speaks with guttural, upward inflection making everyone sound like they are saying things as a question or are about to cry.

    Any additional comments?

Despite the narrator, I really like this book. There are some places that are predictable but its not a problem as there are a lot of things going on in this book and everything ends up tying together well. A good read, but a hard listen.

What made the experience of listening to Onyx the most enjoyable?

The two main characters made the listening experience the most enjoyable. I love Kat and Daemon’s dynamics. I love the tension, I love the banter and I love everything about them.

What does Justine Eyre bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This is my second time to listening to Justine Eyre and I have to say I like her more and more with each book I listen to. She isn’t overly girly, so her voice matches Kat completely. It’s a bit mature, yet she really knows how to express emotions, especially when Kat starts crying. I enjoy Justine voice very much.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I can listen to this book in all in one sitting. There’s so much action, tension, drama and dialogue that keeps me going and going. It’s a fantastic series.

    5 Just say it Stars

I read this series three years ago. I started to read YA before I started to read NA. I’m still a major fan of YA and there’s something about listening to YA books that I really love. I love that these books are pure romance and the steamy stuff is kind of on the back-burner. I also love paranormal reads, so this is a win-win for me.

If you haven’t started this series or if you already read them, you should do the audio version. I feel like I re-experience everything for the first time.

Onyx picks up where Obsidian leaves off. Daemon and Kat are growing closer in their relationship and another person is thrown in to the mix… Blake.

I wouldn’t call this a love-triangle book, but I love Blake’s character. I felt he added great tension and I loved seeing Daemon jealous. Blake is the new kid in town and he’s showing interest towards Kat. He’s willing to take whatever relationship he can get from her, friendship, or something more. Kat still has feelings for Daemon, but with Daemon’s hot and cold personality, she wants to focus on someone else.

Blake is a great distraction and even though she makes it clear to Blake that she only wants a friendship, it still ruffles Daemon… just a tad bit and I love it.

The thing I really love about this series is the pure romance of it and oh the innocence of Daemon and Kat’s relationship. I love how much Daemon cares for Kat. He does turn around a bit and tries to pursue her, but Kat only thinks Daemon likes her because of the connection.

Can I just say that I love the connection?! Anything that links two people together gets me all squishy inside. Shelly Crane did that in the Significance series and I thought it was fantastic. I love that Kat isn’t throwing herself at Daemon. I love that she is slightly guarded and she’s trying to prevent herself from getting hurt. I love strong Heroines in paranormal books. I think you kind of have to have them if they are willing to face off villains and bad guys.

This book was jam pack of fun and it kept me interested from start to finish. I loved it and I love this series.
