Daemon's determined to prove what he feels for Katy is more than a product of their bizarro connection. So she's sworn him off, even though he's running more hot than cold these days. But they've got bigger problems. The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that Katy and Daemon are linked, Katy's a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who's got a secret of his own. He knows what's happened to Katy and he can help, but to do so, Katy has to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, Katy's falling for Daemon. Hard.
Katy's seen someone who shouldn't be alive. And she has to tell Daemon, even though he'll never stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them - from her?
No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies....

"The second in Armentrout's Lux series is enchanting, as she carefully amps up the romance and danger. [Fans] will stay glued as the story unfolds and eagerly await the next installment." (RT Book Reviews)
Busy mom who loves to read but doesn't always have the time. I enjoy YA, Romance and the occasional Best Seller.
This book is simply A-MAZING! I thought Obsidian was good, but then I listened to Onyx and was blown away. Daemon and Katy are back and better than ever! There were so many twists and turns and OMG moments that this one actually took my breath away. And that ending….whoa! This is such a well written and intense story that many times I forgot this was a YA book. Jennifer Armentrout is an extremely talented writer and this series is a must listen for anyone that enjoys YA PNR.
I am an avid listener. I listen between 75-100 hours per month on my iPhone: 60% fiction to 40% non-fiction.
At the beginning of the series, you might be lured into thinking this is a YA teen romance. Well it is and it is very much not. In the second novel, much more Divergent esq., Armentrout does a fabulous job broadening the focus of the novel with surprising turns. Daemon and Kat are back and they stop the petty fighting and unite on a common goal -- can they overcome the DoD, who can the trust?
Okay, Eyre does a great job narrating. If you are are a fan of hunger games, divergent, steelheart, etc. You will love the series and book 2. Give it a read.
man talk about a nail biter wholly cow iv stayed up till 3 am to finish because I couldn't put it down although I'd still like to have a male voice instead of a female trying to sound masculine she did a wonderful job and I applaud her. I have fallen in love!!!!
Going into this I thought this was going to be twilight part 2. there were still a lot of similarities but I really liked this book....enough that #3 is downloading as I type. It's taken some interesting twists and really kept me engaged. I love the characters!
I like any books that hook you within the first chapter. If a love story is involved even better.
I would recommend this to a friend as long as they were into the same type of books I am into.
I love Daemon! At first you hate him then you love him. I like those kind of guys.
She does a great job with the expressing the emotion of Katy, but when she does Daemon's and the other men's voice it can be hard to tell a difference.
I loved it all!
Just listen and get hooked!
I like better fleshed out characters and good story development. The story was jerky. For what seems like chapters unpon chapters nothing would happen except for Katy and Deamon's drama and then something would happen that would finally move the story forward. I don't mind reading about highschool teens and their crap but these happen to be ALIENS and the government is involved and there are a lot of shenanigans so it had the potential to be an incredible story.
Yeah. And that speaks poorly of me.
Well, Justine Eyre the narrator is pretty good, I don't like the male voice she uses for Daemon but the rest of the characters are more or less well portrayed. Also one of Katy's cafeteria friend's sounds like a smoker, Lesa or Carissa or something like that. Overall a good job.
I like ALIENS. They're a nice change from vampires, demons, fallen angels, werewolves and the more common PARANORMAL stories out there.
The book is pathetic. Mostly is about Katy not being over Daemon being a douche in book one and thus throughout this book she makes many stupid decisions and assumptions that lead down slippery slopes. Katy is one of my least favorite heroines.
Like I said before I like ALIENS so I will more than likely finish out the series but only because even though the story is developed poorly it is a good story.
Ok, yes, I confess. I'm another paranormal geek.
Parents, be warned!! This book encourages kids to go behind parents backs and participate in sex, drinking and even skipping classes. There is a lot of talk about sex (talk AND frequent participation), drinking and skipping school. I realize it's "normal" in the high school era to be tempted by things like this, which is why I am surprised this book did not hold back for being YA. Not only that, but the parents of these teenagers in this book are still barely involved in the kids lives, and they act as though their hormone strung teenager is capable of "just sleeping side by side". Yes, that is what really happened in the story, but I don't know any parent who would react the way the mom did in this book when she found her daughter sleeping in just a tshirt next to her boyfriend. It's dangerous territory for young adults, in my opinion.
All that said...
I still enjoyed this series quite a bit, when I thought of it outside of the high school realm. I thought this book definitely took it's own course, away from the Twilight similarities, and I found myself pulled into it. The characters are built well, they stay true to who they are, and a lot of self discovery is made in some of the characters as well. I enjoyed the steady paced story line and I actually thought Justine Eyre's narration was much, much better this time around, too. No whispering or different tone's. It was comfortable.
No. Never is to me though, but it was good.
I don't know, Daemon Black, Kitten, Dee....
