"Pullman is as fine a writer as there is for young people, and this book is a small gem." (Booklist)
This was a fun "origin" type story for Yorik and Leif, great background and I enjoyed spending more time with two of my favorite characters.
Very good reader...hey, It's the author!!!
I dug it...and any fan of the trilogy it leads to must listen...
performance just as great and professional as the trilogy. story is just not as interesting without Lyra and Will. the plot was just ok, although it IS nice to hear from Lee and Iyorek (sp?) again!
'Once Upon A Time In The North' needs to be something that every fan of Philip Pullman owns in their library. Engaging and dark!
Very nice short story! Great to hear old characters and their background. You will like if you liked "his dark materials"
His Dark Materials is three books: The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. Once Upon A Time In The North is a ministory and a prequel about Lyras friend the Texan aeronaut Lee Scoresby. The is NOTHING LIKE the Golden Compass. Lyra is NOT in the story and the story takes place years before the events in His Dark Materials. The often repeated foul language was offputting and unexpected. In the end, I liked the original stories much better. Or try a much better series in the first place like Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches.
