Publisher's summary

When 17-year-old Katy Swartz moved to West Virginia right before her senior year, she'd pretty much resigned herself to thick accents, dodgy Internet access, and a whole lot of boring, but then she spotted her hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up...until he opened his mouth.

Daemon Black is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. It's hate at first sight, but when a stranger attacks her and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens. The hot guy next door? Well, he's an alien.

Turns out that Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities and Katy is caught in the crosshairs. Daemon's touch has lit her up like the Vegas Strip and the only way she's getting out of this alive is by sticking close to him until her alien mojo fades. That is, if she doesn't kill him first.

Loved it!

The story was amazing! I loved the characters. The narrator was good with the voices and telling the story, but I was very annoyed by the fact she did not pronounce Daemon's name correctly. She would say it as demon instead of Damon. It truly is pronounced as Damon. (I watched an interview with the author.)

Good!

Except for the mispronounced Daemon name, I loved the audiobook of this beloved series! It was almost like reading it for the first time again!

Not the greatest!

I just finished reading the arcana chronicles and needed another sci fi series to read so I chose this one. Not even comparable to the arcana chronicles. The writing is super immature and just no depth to it at all. It was very predictable and so much like twilight, I already knew everything that was going to happen so I found myself drifting off while I was listening. Daemon was an ass that was just not even likable in any way so it was hard to see how Katy could fall for him. Hotness and all, when a guys is that big of a jerk, there's no need to go any further.
Ok THE NARRATOR IS AWFUL. It was truly hard for me to get past her annoying voice. But when she starting speaking Daemons part, I just burst out laughing in the car. He sounded like an aloof idiotic pot head teenage girl going through puberty. It was hysterical. I couldn't even listen to what he was saying because the voice was so comical. I just can't any more. I do want to kind of know what will happen between Katy and Deamon, and for that I gave it 3 stars. But I just can't with the narrator. You should all read the arcana chronicles, much better series with an amazing narrator.

I recommend this book

I had no idea what to expect from this book, not even the main storyline. I just heard it was good, and sure enough it was. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I reserve that for my top favorite books only. The narrator's accent bugged me a little. Some of the voices would have been way different in my head, but that's what you get when you let someone else do all the voices for you. Overall, I will definitely continue reading this series.

Great Story, Great Imagination

Would you listen to Obsidian again? Why?

Yes! It is a wonderfully entertaining.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Obsidian?

Daemon and Katy's first make-out session... the one that blew her laptop up.

What does Justine Eyre bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She is great for this part. She brings just the right voice to the women, and the men.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Katy's personality is hilarious, as is her banter with Daemon.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommend

Good story if you can get past the narrator

I'm undecided on Jennifer Armentrout. I would prefer that the main character here (Katie) had less of a potty mouth - but that said, the story is pretty good. I liked the type of aliens here. Daemon (pronounced Demon? Didn't care for that) was a rather infuriating character. This wasn't a story that went where you thought it would - so that's good.

Justine Eyre was a very bad choice as a narrator. She has a bit of a whine, her voice is entirely too low, and she can't do a West Virginia accent at all. She was a terrible match for this story. And that's sad, because it definitely colored my impression of the book. This one is better read in print.
