Amazing! Another great series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. I've already read this book and still bought it again to listen to it. It's that good! Love the characters and the spark between two main characters is electrifying.

What other book might you compare Obsidian to and why?

Roswell. It's got the whole alien thing going but it's got a way better spin to it and its just so entertaining

What does Justine Eyre bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Attitude. And she's got a great voice. Makes it seem like u are there :)

Laugh and almost cry it was one of those books that does both

If not for the narrator...increase speed.

The narrator is awful. She sounds like a two bit lady of the night at best. The story isn’t bad, but neither is it great. I find that as with many YA supernatural stories they have a very similar plot. The only difference for me is that this was aliens. No real strong character development, I mean Daemon’s not bad, but Katy, Dee, and pretty much everyone else are flat stock characters. I discovered this through Chapters and liked the basic story enough that I wanted to read the actual book, or at least listen to the audiobook for convenience. Sadly the narrator ruins the book. I already purchased the next two audiobooks in the series and see that the same woman narrates them all. However, if you speed up the track the overtly nasally, seductive voice is more tolerable. Most books I listen to at the original speed, but you I can speed this up to 1.75 for most of it.

Same story, different series

I started to read this book because of the reviews I read on the Divisa series from J.L. Weil. I had just finished the series and was curious on why many reviews would accuse Weil of copying the Lux series. The books are similar, but both enjoyable. But I also think that both these books are similar to the twilight series.

Let’s see....

1. Moody, mysterious, next door neighbor.
2. Nerdy, awkward girl who doesn’t think she’s beautiful (one a gamer another a blogger).
3. Girl has a hot mom who encourages her to flirt more.
4. Both girls move to a po-dunk town.
5. Moody guy likes to sit behind the girl in school poking her in the back with a pen.
6. Each has a spunky, sweet new bestie (who likes to shop)
7. Girl/boy hate each other.
8. Guy saves girl (multiple times...)
9. Girl basically dies, while guy brings her back.
20. One is a half demon and one is a half alien.

Yep, very similar. Fun read.

This one is so good Roswell like. I LOVED it! cant wait to listen to more

Great book, but maybe skip the audio

I really enjoyed this book, especially more than I thought I would going into it. I was worried going into it thatbit was going to be terrible, and I'm pleasantly surprised with how good this first book was. Sure, it's easily comparable to it's contemporaries (especially the big one), but I think it did some interesting things with the genre. I loved the friendships in this and the start of Daemon and Katy's love story. I can't wait to see where it goes

If there's one downside to this book though, it IS, unfortunately, Justine Eyre's narration. It was just... not it. She sounded older than she should for a teenager (and I normally don't hype on this one because duh) and I'm admittedly not exceptionally good at telling a good narrator from a bad one. But it was just distractingly bad with how out of place she felt here, and I'm glad I got this on audible escape because of the lackluster narration alone. I don't know if I'm gonna continue in audio format because of her narration. There were also a couple of weird audio glitches where it would cut certain lines from the book, which was odd.

Overall, a SOLID book content wise, but maybe just read it physically or ebook because the performance DESPERATELY leaves something to be desired.

Loved it!

The story was amazing! I loved the characters. The narrator was good with the voices and telling the story, but I was very annoyed by the fact she did not pronounce Daemon's name correctly. She would say it as demon instead of Damon. It truly is pronounced as Damon. (I watched an interview with the author.)

I though it was a good story. Different from what I'm used to listen to. I can say I excited to start the second book with is now.

Except for the mispronounced Daemon name, I loved the audiobook of this beloved series! It was almost like reading it for the first time again!

I've listened to it hundreds of times. By are one of my favorite summer reads.
