Publisher's summary

It's going to be a long, hard, cruel winter. And there couldn't be a worse place to spend it than up on Anglezarke.

Thomas Ward is the apprentice for the local Spook, who captures witches and drives away ghosts. As the weather gets colder and the nights draw in, the Spook receives an unexpected visitor. Tom doesn't know who the stranger is or what he wants, but the Spook suddenly decides it's time to travel to his winter house, Anglezarke. Tom has heard it will be a bleak, forbidding place, and that menacing creatures are starting to stir somewhere on the moors nearby.

Can anything prepare Tom for what he finds there? What if the rumors about the evil beast called the Golgoth are true? And how much danger will Tom be in if the secrets the Spook has been trying to hide from the world are revealed?

Loved it!!

The most memorable part is Tom saying goodbye to his mom. I am looking forward to discovering who and what she really is!

Winter in Anglezarke

The ending was a little anticlimactic with all that happens leading up. It was nice to read Thom saving the day with not much help from the Spook. The Spook being hurt had me stresses. As always the narrator did a great job making this book spooky and creepy.

Left Me Wanting More

This is the third book in this series and the last book currently available on Audible (perhaps the last book currently written). I really enjoyed this series and can't wait for more.

I've found user reviews to be very important when trying to decide whether I should purchase an audio book or not, so I've felt compelled to leave my comments and recommendations for this series. They are great stories (even though they are actually young adult books) and are read by an excellent reader who seriously enhances the audio book experience with his narrative skills.

Written for kids, but great for adults!

I absolutely love this series! I don't have kids, and I'm in my late 30's, yet I find this very entertaining and addictive. Even for adults it is gripping and frightening at times. I think it might even be a bit much for some kids, though I know I would have loved it when I was young. Definitely a good read for all ages if you like tales of the supernatural.

Can't wait for the next book to come out!

another scary winner!

Where does Last Apprentice rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

the best series so far.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Spook...

Have you listened to any of Christopher Evan Welch’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but he is perhaps the best we have heard yet

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The books from the beginning work are almost seamless in their delivery, therefore all the terrifying events run together

Any additional comments?

Mr. Delaney, because of his history background, and his ability to draw ancient information about the dark, spins wonderful tales that require lights out, candles on, and get your scary on. We plan to read each and every one available. The marriage of a great author and a wonderful narrator cannot be understated. P.S. These books are not for the faint of heart, and although they are officially rated as young adult, we older folks are enjoying them immensely.

super duper

Not my favorite of the books but it leaves you wanting to hear more. The attention to detail makes me feel like I'm actually there.

Compelling story. Loads of fun!.

The reading by Christopher Evan Welch is enchanting, and the story without his performance, is just not the same. Great book!

Dull story excitedly narrated

An impudent apprentice tells a dreary tale set in a 1700s British like world beset with witches and Spooks and similar. The characters speak with modern American-English expressions and thought forms.
The narrator was too much for me. He seemed constantly overexcited. The protagonist did seem nearly always distressed and was fairly begging for sympathy and empathy from the listener. The emotionality was too incongruous for the banal story.
