Ruby never asked for the abilities that almost cost her her life. Now she must call upon them on a daily basis, leading dangerous missions to bring down a corrupt government and breaking into the minds of her enemies. Other kids in the Children’s League call Ruby “Leader", but she knows what she really is: a monster.

When Ruby is entrusted with an explosive secret, she must embark on her most dangerous mission yet: leaving the Children’s League behind. Crucial information about the disease that killed most of America’s children - and turned Ruby and the others who lived into feared and hated outcasts - has survived every attempt to destroy it. But the truth is saved in only one place: a flash drive in the hands of Liam Stewart, the boy Ruby once believed was her future - and who now wouldn’t recognize her.

As Ruby sets out across a desperate, lawless country to find Liam - and answers about the catastrophe that has ripped both her life and America apart - she is torn between old friends and the promise she made to serve the League. Ruby will do anything to protect the people she loves. But what if winning the war means losing herself?

"Great Story, Great Narrator, Annoying character..."

Ok it was a good book, exciting, action packed all the way through but Ruby has gotten on my last nerve. She is almost as dumb as Bella Swan in Twilight. She has the powers but afraid to use them even to save her own neck then if she does use them she starts feeling all guilty and it is just pathetic. People are dying! And Liam, oh my goodness Liam. The boy loves you for goodness sake. Ruby is constantly putting her friends in danger by being too scared to act and is unable to help them due to her incompetence and all the issues going on in her head about being a "monster". She really literally worked my nerves. I listened to it on audio book and I wanted to just fast forward it. I actually turned it off at one time cause she was being so dumb. I did like the ending and I am ready for book 3 but if you can stomach Ruby's "I can't speak, it's stuck in my throat, I don't want to be a monster, I should be locked away" attitude then you will love this book. It is frustrating but a good read and the story line in my opinion is very interesting.

"Just as good as Darkest Minds"

For a middle book, this one blows that "middle book syndrome" idea right out of the water. Wow! Every bit as action packed and drama driven as the first book, Alexandra Bracken has delivered a whopper of a sequel. The audio by Amy McFadden is superb. Every voice was distinct, every emotion appropriate. I am getting spoiled by all these voice actors and highly impatient with those who just narrate. This book is amazing. Just get it and listen to it - you're welcome.

    "Middle book that doesn't exite"

You need this book for the series, but don't get too excited for it. You'll be miserable with Ruby at the start...who is a complete idiot. Now, she's not as horrible as some of the other reviews would have you believe, but there is some truth to it. She really is a whinny, untrusting whelp who really just needs to stop talking about seeing her grandmother someday and actually use her abilities. But she's a good character to not love which is why Chubbs being reintroduced early really helps the story. Plus Vida, who is an absolute blast.

I reaffirm my doubt in the back story of this book. Too many adults are wanting to help the kids for this all to be happening, but again, just my opinion.

I binge read this book and was really sad at the end. Which is the marking of a very enjoyable book. I'll look forward to the next in the series.

Narrator is not the worst but pretty bad.

    "Why?"

This story was great for the most part, but I'm only giving it 3 stars because I was seriously disappointed by all the unnecessary swearing! This book is supposed to YA, not M. I choose books like this to listen too in the car with my YA son, and I had to stop letting him listen to it because of how many times the author used the F word! I don't care if it's part of the characters personality, it is a crappy trait that doesn't need to be in a book for YA! We already have enough of that to worry about out in the real world! Using the F word is not clever conversation nor is it clever writing skills! It's laziness, especially in written form because as an author I'm sure Alexandra Bracken has access to a thesaurus and could have come up with something far more expressive and far less vulgar than the F word! The publishers and the author should have chosen to rate this book for M audiences, if they weren't going to edit out the language!

I like happy endings and realism that is realistic rather than gritty.

    "Book 2: Overwrought"

I really enjoyed the first book, with a few quibbles.

In book 2, all of those quibbles become major elements of the story...so... It took me 3 months to finish listening.

Great new characters are added, the plot thickens, and the main character feels responsible for things she could not possibly control.

    "Excellent, Great listen !!!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Never Fade to be better than the print version?

    Haven't seen the printed version...

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, would have been nice to sit and listen to entire book, but long enough and to many interuptions to do so.

    Any additional comments?

This would be a great listen for children 10 and up. I did not realize that it was in the teen list till I looked. I liked the suspence and the anticipation book by book. Kept you thinking and kept it pretty much real. I could imagine this might or could actually happen.

    "Fantastic yet again"

I had to download this as soon as I finished listening to The Darkest Minds (the first book in the series) Never Fade starts of where the last ended and once again I was gripped by the characters and the further evolution of the world they liv. Once again the book is so well paced and the morality of the decisions the characters make is handled so well you will not want this story to end. Great great books a must listen.
