Publisher's summary

The sea has taken everything.

Thirteen-year-old Mau is the only one left after a giant wave sweeps his island village away. But when much is taken, something is returned, and somewhere in the jungle, Daphne - a girl from the other side of the globe - is the sole survivor of a ship destroyed by the same wave.

Together, the two confront the aftermath of catastrophe. And slowly, other refugees arrive - children without parents, mothers without babies, husbands without wives - all of them hungry and all of them frightened. As Mau and Daphne struggle to keep the small band safe and fed, they defy ancestral spirits, challenge death himself, and uncover a long-hidden secret that literally turns the world upside down....

Internationally revered storyteller Terry Pratchett presents a breathtaking adventure of survival and discovery, and of the courage required to forge new beliefs.

Loved it

I love Pratchett- but even by his standards , this is a phenomenal book. The storyline is superb, the delivery just right. And you will finish it, feeling unexpectedly deeply moved.

Pratchett in a different world is still Pratchett

Not as whimsical as the Discworld, but still enjoyable and fully engaging. Time flew by as I listened.

Stansdard Pratchett

The standard fun read from Pratchett. Good, but one of his best. Yet I still recommend it for Discworld fans.

Another Pratchett work of art.

Only a unique author and mind like sir Terry Pratchett could have produced a story like this that can be fundamentally enjoyed on many levels.

Beautiful Story

An amazing book. Terry Pratchett makes me happy. It is young adult fiction but is equally entertaining for adults.

Not from Discworld

I Love Sir Terrys Discworld-novels. Really Love-Love. But they are perfect In a collection of great books on universe of Discworld. But if I were To choose one single book as a one single book, of Pratchetts, it would be Nation

One review said this was "Kids book for adults", I'd say Terry Pratchetts work is more like adult books for kids.

a surprise from Terry Pratchett!

I have been for the last 10 years a big fan of the discworld series. The only other foray outside of this world that I have read that has been strictly written by Terry Pratchett no shame upon Neil gaiman, has been dodger which I thoroughly enjoyed, and I could place this book next to dodger on the same shelf proudly.

A Kid's book for adults

This is Pratchett at his subversive best. A welcome change to the Discworld books. In some ways you can ignore the 'Audible Kids' reference, that is simply because the protagonist is a teenager. This book can easily be enjoyed by the young and old alike. It is quite a dark story in some ways, so I would say it's maybe unsuitable for the really young, but maybe 12+ is the best ages.

Good Story

Although I likely would not have purchased the book if I had known is was in the Audible-Kids section, I enjoyed listening to the story.
