Publisher's summary

Seventeen-year-old Alice Bonham's life feels out of control after she meets Jack. With his fondness for pink Chuck Taylors and New Wave hits aside, Jack's unlike anyone she's ever met. Then she meets his brother, Peter. His eyes pierce through her, and she can barely breathe when he's around. Even though he can't stand the sight of her, she's drawn to him. But falling for two very different guys isn't even the worst of her problems. Jack and Peter are vampires, and Alice finds herself caught between love and her own blood....

Reading this was better than listening

I actually liked the book better when I read it. It took forever to get to the point, but once it did it was good. The narrator, not so good. She took forever like she was trying to drag the story out as long as possible. Almost as if she was reading one word per page. Or as if she'd never read it before and was looking back over the words before she said another sentence. It was pretty awful. The only reason I gave a 4 star overall and story is because it was better than the narration. If you're interested in this book I would suggest you read it instead of listening to it.

Not a bad book, not great either

Another twilight type book. Good brother, bad brother. The persons I liked most in this story was Milo and May. They were the most honest I felt in the story. Milo is a 15 year old, but acts like he is 25, at least he has more sense than Alice. May is the mother type vampire figure, who tries to counsel Alice about making a decision of becoming a vampire.
If you want to read another vampire story then read. Its a rather tame story, not much action.

Is this a joke?

Right from the beginning it acts like a mystery that just screams - He's a vampire! It's so generic. The generic names really aren't so bad, but the story is so unbelievably plain and obvious. Add this to the slow and boring narration and all I want to do is fall asleep. Though the idea is interesting enough to keep me listening. After trying another book by Amanda Hocking narrated by someone else, I wonder if someone is telling these girls to narrate it in a way that makes you want to fall asleep. The book Switched is even more soft spoken and slow. Like they wanted to suck all the life out of the main character at the very least. Though the other characters, mostly the guys seem to have more life to them than the girls… And worst of all it sounds like the author is just trying to remake Twilight… Without the mystery, even obvious as it was, this one sounds like a joke playing off of Twilight. Its clearly not over the top with character development… But that actually makes it seem very normal. The very plain normal like reality TV without the drama. So for that reason its pretty interesting.. Just like a train wreck...

good

thw story compels to me but I have a problem with the main character. From previoua books amanda hocking has made, the main character are bad ass girls who grow from their mistakes. i find her character development to be fantastic. now I know this is only book one but so far I feel like Alice takes no responsibility over her own life. I hope that by the last book the character grows on me.

Life with Peter

I loved the book. I am sure the second will be just as good. I love the character of Peter.

It's just ok

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The story has a lot of potential but was lacking and some of the choices that were made were just annoying. The main character was annoying more often than not.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Some of the characters were great and should have been focused on more while some of the least interesting characters were focused on too much.

What three words best describe Hannah Friedman’s voice?

It's just ok. There were not enough differences between the male voices and they sounded to feminine.

Could you see My Blood Approves being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

If it were it would just be ok unless it was just based on the book.

My Blood Approves - But my Brain does not

I feel like a few brain cells died, flinging themselves over a cliff just to escape this horrid nonsense. I'd give it all 1 star if it weren't YA but even then I feel like teenagers are being cheated. Simply put, this is Twilight watered down.

No plot, no endgame (at least where I'm at just before the start of Part 2), Alice is a shallow, self-absorbed, 17-year-old idiot who has clearly never heard the word vampire despite throwing up werewolf as an excuse for Jack's strange behavior. Her only friend is a slut (no really, the girl does nothing but go out, get drunk, and have one-night stands), she hardly gives a thought to her mother who's apparently working 70 hours a week, and her brother is a shadow of a character. She gets saved from being attacked and immediately gets in the car with a complete stranger who is 25 who focuses all his attention on her because "there's just something about her that's different from other girls." He does all these weird things and she just keeps going with the flow while having midless drivel float through her brain for us readers to see how truely clueless she is. Ugh.

The narration is fair at best and mediocre most of the time, but then, it fits the story just perfect.

I bought this during a sale and boy do I feel stupid for going ahead and getting the next few novels just to save a little. Part of me thinks I want to finish it just to get my money out of it but the other part of me thinks I want to save the remaining brain cells. Save yourself the credit.

ugh

What disappointed you about My Blood Approves?

The storyline was disappointing. I guess if you want a combination of The Vampire Diaries and Twilight but not done well, this book is it!

What do you think your next listen will be?

Divergent

Have you listened to any of Hannah Friedman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but she did well.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

just the performer

Any additional comments?

Pass it by.

Too much like Twilight

Some of the dialog sounds like it’s was plucked right from Twilight. Not original. Narrator didn’t keep me engaged.
