Publisher's summary

A mysterious island.

An abandoned orphanage.

A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that makes for a thrilling listening experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow - impossible though it seems - they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

Interesting Story

What did you like best about Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children? What did you like least?

The story was very interesting and fairly well written. A bit slow at the start, but it does pick up after a short while. I greatly enjoyed listening to it...that is until it came time for Jesse Bernstein to speak with an accent. I could barely stand listening to it. The overall performance was not bad, but be prepared to cringe every time a character with an accent speaks!

Would you be willing to try another one of Jesse Bernstein’s performances?

I may be willing to Bernstein another chance, as long as I knew that no accents would be involved in the book.

Could you see Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I think this book does have potential to be a wonderful movie!

Any additional comments?

Overall, I really did enjoy this book. It kept my attention throughout, and always looked forward to listening to more. If it weren't for the terrible accents (which really distracted from the story), I would've rated this book a bit higher. Definitely worth the listen though!

New Favorite Book

Where does Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is among the very top.

What did you like best about this story?

I like how the story draws you in the moment you look at the cover. There are also so many twist and turns in the story, that just when you think you have it figured out, you don't.

What does Jesse Bernstein bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

You can relate to him as a young teenage boy.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, a bit long for that, but I did listen to it every chance I had.

Any additional comments?

There is some cussing in the book. I really wanted to share the book and the audio to my 5th grade class was unable to, due to the cussing. So, I am doing the next best thing and reading it aloud to them from my Kindle and skipping the cuss words. This book feels like the Lightning Thief or Harry Potter books. Kids are sure to love it. Just wish the cussing had been left out.

Only one part I would say could use some work

The narrator is not fantastic at female voices. Some of them sound identical which can cause some confusion.

Returned because of the narrator

I may track this down as a hard copy, but I returned this title to audible because of how much the narrator's accents made me cringe. Distractingly terrible.

Interesting book.

I was not sure how this book was going to pan out. It draws you into another world and gives you a diversion from your everyday doldrums. Some may find it difficult to follow, but overall it is a good read.

Great story! Narrator, not so much.

The story is incredible, but I hate the narrator's performance. Admittedly, his voice for the main character is great, but the voices he makes for all the other characters are cringe-worthy -- some worse than others, but all bad.

please, find narrators who can do accents

This book takes place in wales, and 90% of the characters are british. Therefor, it would seem important to have a narrator who could do an even passible british accent. This one can't. At all. No one in england pronounces Mad Man as "Mahd Mahn". It sound rediculous.
