Editorial reviews

Gaiman loves short stories for offering "tiny windows into other worlds" and for letting readers "make it to the far side of the universe and still be back in time for dinner." This production also offers windows into Gaiman's writing history - from one story penned in 1984 to another that shows its development from a work in progress. Though the collection is thematically diverse, it's unified by Gaiman's masterful ability as a storyteller. Talented at creating voices to express his sometimes dark sense of humor, Gaiman has terrific pacing and savors the words he speaks, qualities that concentrate his listeners' attention on his unique prose. His affection for all of his characters results in a magical production.

    nice collection

The Noir/ Mother Goose mashup is a dud (to me). Sunbird is my favorite out of the book.

the long plays between of music was horrid

Not only was the music distracting, it was loud. Spoken words were sometimes whispered so I had to adjust volume to hear. The stories were not if good quality the first one being overly cutesy others said and depressing. I don't recommend and I won't reread

    Neil Gaiman is always magic

What made the experience of listening to M is for Magic the most enjoyable?

Neil Gaiman is the best storyteller of the twenty-first century. He is always a joy to read and listen to. The only thing better than reading Neil Gaiman is hearing Neil Gaiman read his own work.

    great short stories

Great stories by one of the best modern authors. The writing style is outstanding as always, and the narration is spot on.

    Amazing author, wonderful tales

Although I would not classify these as “children’s” tales, I still loved the eerie Storting telling by Neil Gaiman and the short stories we were able to have here. Each one very different yet somehow still the authors style.

    great for all ages

this collection of short stories is wonderful for all ages; I liked most of the stories very much, and I really do like the reading by Mr. Gaiman; he really makes the stories come alive; I can imagine him telling them to his children the same way; really a nice little romp in fantasy; not too dreadful, and some very funny; great fun; not really what I think of as a children's book.

    not for children

I found this collection of short stories very 'hit or miss'- I either really liked the story or really didn't, and not being a fan of Jazz music I really wasn't impressed with the Jazz interludes that separated every story (I wish they'd have been sectioned as 'chapters' so that I could just click past them). Neil Gaiman does his usual great job of narrating- except in the first selection where he tries to put on a fake accent (think film noir detective) and fails miserably. Most of the stories have some adult content (language or situations) but nothing too graphic. While Gaiman claims that collections such as Bradbury's "R is for Rocket" were inspirations for his "M is for Magic" this series is not written for the same age range as Bradbury's. That said, as I am a big fan of Neil Gaiman, I'm glad I purchased this audiobook and will undoubtedly listen to some of the selections over and over (I especially enjoyed "Chivalry" and "The Price").
