Publisher's summary

Lirael has never felt like a true daughter of the Clayr. Abandoned by her mother, ignorant of her father's identity, Lirael resembles no one else in her large extended family living in the Clayr's glacier. She doesn't even have the Sight, the ability to See into the present and possibly futures, that is the very birthright of the Clayr.

Nonetheless, it is Lirael in whose hands the fate of the Old Kingdom lies. She must undertake a desperate mission under the growing shadow of an ancient evil, one that opposes the Royal Family, blocks the Sight of the Clayr, and threatens to break the very boundary between Life and Death itself. With only her faithful companion, the Disreputable Dog to help her, Lirael must find the courage to seek her own hidden destiny.

Don't miss books one and three of this trilogy! Sabriel and Abhorsen.

Curry masterful

The voice characterizations are excellent, but for Mogget and the Dog, Curry is brilliant. I will forever hear his voice whenever I talk to my own dog.

fantastic story

the characters were interesting and had good development theought the story. the world building and magic system were everything I was looking for. it made me wish this was our world.

I think Nix handled the topic of mental health in a realistic way. It was present and important, but it was not the main theme of the story.

Wonderful

A much more compelling story than book one, and I liked book one! Can’t wait to get into Abhorsen.

great story

I love this series I read it in the 90s and have read it twice since. My only problem with these book is the chapters are all twisted. Audible says you are on chapter two but the narrator says it's chapter 6. Each audible chapter could include anywhere from one to four chapters in the book. It's not a real issue but it makes the stop points harder since you can't just set a timer for the end of the chapter because you would end up halfway through a paragraph.

Don't stop now! :-)

Where does Lirael rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

While not #1 on my list, this series still holds a high rank is my lists for fantasy.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Disreputable Dog, I want one!

What does Tim Curry bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Eh, bad question. While he is a good voice actor, I would have wanted a female voice actor for a series with female leads... Sorry Timmy, just not right for you.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I don't know if I had extreme reactions, but i certainly enjoyed this book, and its series.

Any additional comments?

Another great addidtion to the series, If you enjoyed Sebriel, keep it up with Lirael and Abhorsen. Great series, great fun :-)

On a completley unrelated note, can we add spell-check to the reviews? I can't spell for crap, and I don't want people to think my reviews are less relivent because I write like a sixth grader, eh... And no offense sixth graders, I'm sure some of you could easily out-write me haha!
