Publisher's summary

Lirael has never felt like a true daughter of the Clayr. Abandoned by her mother, ignorant of her father's identity, Lirael resembles no one else in her large extended family living in the Clayr's glacier. She doesn't even have the Sight, the ability to See into the present and possibly futures, that is the very birthright of the Clayr.

Nonetheless, it is Lirael in whose hands the fate of the Old Kingdom lies. She must undertake a desperate mission under the growing shadow of an ancient evil, one that opposes the Royal Family, blocks the Sight of the Clayr, and threatens to break the very boundary between Life and Death itself. With only her faithful companion, the Disreputable Dog to help her, Lirael must find the courage to seek her own hidden destiny.

Don't miss books one and three of this trilogy! Sabriel and Abhorsen.

Tim Curry Brings "Lirael" Alive

Tim Curry just makes the whole "Abhorsen" series for me. His reading voice is perfectly suited to the characters and I thought I would have a bit of a challenge warming to his reading of an often female point of view. But he pitches his voice just right and brings each character to life. And Curry as Mogget...wow, just wow. There is NO ONE else for me when it comes to his performance of Mogget.

The series is an old favorite from younger days but is still as captivating as it was in younger years. A great listen.

Just Wonderful

Audiobooks like this one, read by a professional who is also a huge talent, elevates the experience of listening to pure joy.
Everything about this tale, from the writing to the reading, is engrossing and entertaining and fun. Tim Curry is able to vary his voice and expression for each character, and they are many, and more than that, to really throw himself into the telling in such a way that you are suddenly there, in death, or there, on the Ratterlin in the Clayrs' Finder.
Had I read this book on my own I know I would have enjoyed it, but what magic happens when a gifted reader spins the words into intonated phrases with well-placed emphases and subtle pauses, creating a unique experience that I could never have conjured for myself in my own mind. But perhaps now, having heard what reading can be, I will! That is yet another gift of listening to something done exquisitely well.

I loved this book!

Garth Nix! Tim Curry! Triumph! What a wonderful continued exploration of this world!

I loved every minute of this book and the narration of it! This was a beautiful, exciting and rich continuation of Sabriel. I loved the deeper insight into the world so seamlessly created by Nix.

To the reviewers who found this book "depressive" I can only wonder if they were ever a teenager or ever raised teenagers? It seems a perfect depiction to me, but way, way more exciting. Thank you, Garth Nix, for your plethora of strong female characters. And, thank YOU, Tim Curry for your spot on anitimazation of the characters in this book! Wooow!!!!
