"The production...smoothly weaves dramatic reading and Pierce's outstanding fantasy. Alvarado's even pacing perfectly matches the crisp tone of the book, which reads and feels like great historical fiction. Her performance will have listeners believing that Tortall really existed....A thoroughly enjoyable listening experience." (School Library Journal)
Well you have made it through this most excellent series, and you need to know what book to go get and read next. The answer is simple! Trickster's Choice followed by Tricksters Queen. Those two books are both set in this same Authorverse, and the same reader too.
Since I like this narrator and enjoy this author, it's hard to admit that this isn't quite the best work of either. The book could have used more editing, and Trini doesn't put as much polish into the narration as she has in other books. Still, it's a fine tale and a good read, if not a brilliant one. I enjoyed it anyway.
My favorite of the Lioness story arc, this was my first taste of Tortall when I was young, driving me to find the rest of the story. The pace is quick tempoed, and full of action and enthralling characters.
If fantasy adventure is what you seek, then look no further.
Happiness is a current attitude, not a future condition.
I read this series as a young girl, and have revisited it again in my late 30s. What a lovely tale of emotions, strength and weakness, power and desire and love. And so noble minded! I would highly recommend this to any lover of fantasy and good writing!
