Publisher's summary

"My Firstlife is over, but my Everlife is only now beginning."

With her last living breath, Tenley "Ten" Lockwood made her choice and picked her realm in the Everlife. Now, as the war between Troika and Myriad rages, she must face the consequences.

Because Ten possesses a rare supernatural ability to absorb and share light, the Powers That Be have the highest expectations for her future - and the enemy wants her neutralized. Fighting to save her Secondlife, she must learn about her realm from the ground up while launching her first mission: convincing a select group of humans to join her side before they die. No pressure, right?

But Ten's competition is Killian, the boy she can't forget - the one who gave up everything for her happiness. He has only one shot at redemption: beating Ten at a game she's never even played. As their throw-downs heat up, so do their undeniable feelings, and soon Ten will have to make another choice: love or victory.

It's great, as expected

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a Gena Showalter - She is amazing and this book lives up to my expectations. A review doesn't even feel necessary - if you read the first book, you are probably going to jump on this book 2 no matter what.

Exciting.

Absolutely love Lifeblood. It explores the realms more than I could've hoped for. As with all great books this one is full of love, deceit, and betrayal. I can't wait to read more.

Good read.

sometime this was a little redundant with the messages, too many underscores....but still I enjoyed it.

Different Perspective 2nd Time Through

#BecRereads2018

Upon listening to this again, I’ve realized I’m not really all that interested in the star-crossed lovers theme of this one, but it doesn’t matter, as the concept of an epic battle between opposing afterworlds is so unbelievably fascinating to me.

There’s a lot of action going on that isn’t tied to the romance, and I enjoy how all the side characters are unique and stand out.

PREVIOUS REVIEW:
I love creative worlds that explore the gray that exists between dark and light, but what is best about this series is the underlying themes and messages about the power of humanity to forgive, overcome, and/or evolve.

There are not just good characters and bad ones in this series. Instead, there are electric characters with depth who make a series of both good and bad choices for many different reasons. I can't help but like a book that presents its characters as more than just: the good guy, the bad guy, and their devoted side characters. This world of warfare should be dark, depressing, and brutal, but the story brings a feeling of hope and faith of overcoming past missteps to be a person who is no longer defined by them.

And on top of all that, there are some sentences and phrases in this novel that are so small but also so mighty. I believe they will cling to me for some time.

It was OK.

Struggled to finish. I read the first book 3 years ago and I could not finish this one. I think I just could not buy into the story anymore.

Better than First Life, but not by much

In the second book of the Everlife series, Tenley Lockwood has chosen her realm for her Everlife. Troika and Myriad are at war and it is only getting harder to see the light. Troika believes Ten to be one of the greatest Conduits the Everlife has seen. Myriad wants her dead. Now Ten learns that it’s not just about what she wants, but about the entire realm, what’s best for everyone, whether they like it or not. She must learn to fight the good fight, all the while competing with the love of her life, Killian, as well as meeting new friends and making new enemies.

Ten is now in what I consider to be an alternate reality version of “Heaven” (Troika) and Killian is in “Hell”, although I don’t think I would want to be in either of them and Many Ends is “Purgatory”, the last place anyone would ever want to be, but a place where some will end up. What a way to bring religion into a YA book.

While I was not that impressed with the first book, Firstlife, I had to finish the series since it is on my 2021 reading list, which meant listening (audible audiobook), to the second and third books. I enjoyed Everlife much more than I did Firstlife. The characters were more rounded and interesting, although the back-and-forth between Killian, Archer (Bo), and Ten got annoying at times. Just figure it out already and hook up. Teen angst at its worst. I did not see the ending coming at me, so that was a nice surprise.

At times it was difficult to know who Ten was talking about, talking to, or if she was talking to herself. I suppose if I read the book I might have known, but in the audiobook version, well it was difficult to know, whether it was the way it was worded or the way the narrator read it, I cannot say. I know I love the narrator for most of the YA books she reads, but it was just awful in this one.

The “bucklers” are pretty cool, when you think about it, the same as the “jelly air” from Everlife, so not sure why the name changed, but still, I like the idea of them. The Generals, who are in charge, are bullying teenagers. It’s a bit difficult imagining them as those who have the skills and knowledge to fight a war and win. But I digress, this book is better than Everlife, but not by much. I hope the third book is the charm, otherwise, I may not read any other books by Gena Showalter.
