"A lively, fascinating tale." (Booklist)
"Pairing [Trini] Alvarado's vocal talents with [Tamora] Pierce's well written and engaging story makes this a quality audiobook worthy of inclusion in any audio collection." (School Library Journal)
That rare thing, a narrator whose voice draws you in and keeps you in the story while not disrupting the world you built when first reading the books in print. Love this adventurous girl-empowering series and the memorable characters within it!
The four books from the Song of the Lioness Quartet were my absolute favorite books growing up, and I read them a million times! Listening to them again, years later, was a pleasure!
I've always loved the original Alanna series, so this has to be in my top ten (I listen to a lot of audiobooks).
Gary or George. They're both very laid-back, but in different ways.
The accents. I love that Gary has a slightly British accent. It's so easy to imagine him that way.
When Thom shows Alanna the secrets of her shield.
If you're considering this book, definitely give it a try. I thought it was even better than the first book.
I have many times and plan to again.
There are many things I enjoyed about this book. The clash between Alanna and Roger, the witty style of writing... I could go on for hours.
This performance was on par with her others.
Yes, and in my most recent listen I actually did.
This book is excellent. I love the romance that Tamora Pierce threw into the book to compliment the rest of the story. I love the ending, but am a bit sad to see Alanna leave the castle. It'll be interesting to see what happens next in the series.
I will admit, at times the talking cat Faithful was a bit much and it wasn't really believeable, but still it wasn't annoying enough to stop the story from being amazing. My hat's off to you Tamora; I can't wait to finish this series and read the other books in the Tortal universe.
In short, read this book series, it is amazing and you won't be disapointed by the writing or the performance by the narrator. She really brings the characters alive and makes you feel ike you are in Tortal with Alanna and her friends.
I listened to the audio edition of "In the Hands of the Goddess" and enjoyed the continuing adventures of Alanna. In this book, Alanna becomes a squire and must face her worst fears accompanied by her faithful companions: Prince Jonathan, the cat faithful and George.
I was disappointed a bit with this Alanna book. Mainly because I think Alanna's romantic adventures with older men were a bit strange. Why can't Alanna meet a boy her own age? In particular the relationship with George... I don't care for George and he is... 7 years older? Yuck.
Overall, if you like Alanna you will enjoy this. Although I think the talking cat Faithful was a little much. This was a good book. Recommend for teens and young adults.
