Publisher's summary

Everything changed on The Day. The day the windows shattered. The day the power stopped. The day Dol's family dropped dead. The day Earth lost a war it didn't know it was fighting.

Since then, Dol has lived a simple life in the countryside - safe from the shadow of the Icon and its terrifying power. Hiding from the one truth she can't avoid.

She's different. She survived. Why?

When Dol and her best friend, Ro, are captured and taken to the Embassy, off the coast of the sprawling metropolis once known as the City of Angels, they find only more questions. While Ro and fellow hostage Tima rage against their captors, Dol finds herself drawn to Lucas, the Ambassador's privileged son. But the four teens are more alike than they might think, and the timing of their meeting isn't a coincidence. It's a conspiracy.

Within the Icon's reach, Dol, Ro, Tima, and Lucas discover that their uncontrollable emotions - which they've always thought to be their greatest weaknesses - may actually be their greatest strengths.

Best-selling author Margaret Stohl delivers the first audiobook in a heart-pounding series set in a haunting new world where four teens must piece together the mysteries of their pasts - in order to save the future.

awesome

loved it even better the second time.
if I have to complain about anything it's that, like if I were watching a TV show I'd say 'why put those two together? the chemistry just isn't there". I didn't get the feeling he liked her until the end, nor her liking him enough to chose him (purposely did not include names so no giveaways)

Terrible Ending!

Would you listen to Icons again? Why?

I LOVED "Icons" and "Idols" until I got to the ending of the latter. I hope there is another book coming out in this series and that wasn't the ending!

Great Idea and Narration. Terrible writing.

Would you try another book from Margaret Stohl and/or Therese Plummer?

I would try Therese Plummer again. I won't be reading the next in the series.

What do you think your next listen will be?

After this book, I listened to Dangerous Creatures by Margaret Stohl and Kami Garcia. Then I read Unbreakable by Kami Garcia.

What does Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I don't think she brought anything extra, but I enjoyed her voice.

What character would you cut from Icons?

All of them. They were awful, one-dimensional, and poorly fleshed-out. They were like cardboard cut outs whose actions betrayed none of the emotions the author told us they were having.

Any additional comments?

The story itself was so rushed that it felt like a bad movie adaptation of a good book, only this was the book. At least if they make it into a movie, there's really nothing here to cut out or rush. Honestly, I've never returned an Audible book, but I'm tempted to return this one.
