Publisher's summary

Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those who have fallen -- and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.

i wanted to like it more.

But it was just okay. a good solid okay. There's not a lot of real feelings and quite a bit of waffling - which was actually realistic. But the good/bad dichotomy was a little too too and maybe even went on too long - but there were parts that got a little better than average as well as that... almost a great little story. Some parts were. But also a little crazy disjointed.

For young adults

It was a 'nice' story with one or two really good parts. Structure a bit loose, lacking in deeper visual descriptors of the broader scene. Set amongst school it appeals to a young audience.

Not another twilight book (No, really)

Would you try another book from Becca Fitzpatrick and/or Caitlin Greer?

Yes

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was nice. I could guess a little bit of it as this is the first in a series, but I was satisifed all-in-all

What three words best describe Caitlin Greer’s voice?

She tried a bit too hard most of the time on Male voices, but pleasant and easy to listen too otherwise.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

no

I blame my rating on the performance

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes the performer

What didn’t you like about Caitlin Greer’s performance?

I was planning to listen to all the Hush, Hush series but since all of them are preformed by Caitlin Greer I changed my mind
She has potential but she overdid her voices, everything sounded fake and her reactions weren't believable! she either tones down the reaction for something big or overdoes it for nothing
I think I would've liked the book more if it was preformed by a different narrater or if i just read it

*Spoiler at the end of my review*

Note on the narrator- she sounds a little bit like the TikTok voice to text woman which makes some of the story telling hard to listen to in the beginning but you really do get used to it. It’s a nice voice lol

Let’s start by saying people have to STOP comparing this to Twilight. I read this series as it came out many years ago and it’s one of my favorites. This is probably my 4th time going through again but now with Audible for convenience.

The story of Patch and Nora is typical of ANY paranormal / sci-fi romance novel regardless of YA or straight up Adult romance. The paranormal character has something to hide, so their behavior is deemed sketchy and unusual BUT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE!

If you finished the story and learned all about Patch and why he did what he did you would not be feeling that he was a creep, or slimy, or anything.

SPOILER: as soon as Patch admits he was literally planning to “un-alive” Nora for like the entire beginning of the book, it should make you realize which actions were meant to make you uncomfortable. Then when he realizes he likes her and decides not to do it, IT’S STILL GONNA BE WEIRD because he’s a fallen angel and not supposed to be caring toward her… so what better way than to be a jerk and push her away since he’s not supposed to feel for her anyway?

Becca is one of my top 3 favorite authors and I am honestly hurt that so many people can give a book low ratings when the story does exactly as it is meant to.

been my favorite book series since I was 14

and 14 years later it's still an amazing read/listen.
I have come back to this series multiple times over the years and it never fails to leave a smile on my face.

what else can I say? I love it and think you should go on this journey with Nora and patch.

Is it worth the hype?

Hush, Hush By Becca Fitzpatrick is a classic paranormal tale with suspense, mystery, and an out come you never saw coming.

Patch’s mysterious and dangerous undertone drove the story to it’s full fruition. Lets face it if it wasn’t for him and his angst driven ways- I would’ve never finished. He was the binding that kept this book together. If you edited him out of it you just be left with a semi-heroic heroine who not only second guessed herself constantly, but deep down has a masochistic death wish. At one point I secretly yearned for the stalker/revenge seeker, to take her away… Maybe then I would’ve found out more about the mystery behind Patch and not the type of bra Nora picked up at Victoria Secrets.

As you can see Nora and I really never got along … Her friendship with Vee unnerved me. I just didn’t understand how she let her best friend drive her into certain situations.

I wasn’t a fan of some of the dialog but all around it was a well written story. The book wasn’t littered with too many sub-plot lines. The author did however make the mistake of putting too much suspicion on the wrong people, making it easier to for the reader to figure out who was behind the stalking/revenge plot.

The hype surrounding this book made my expectations too high and it just felt like a let down when they weren't met. I kept waiting for something more and when it never came, I became disappointed. But if your looking for a good YA mystery/suspense book to read, then pick up a copy… Just don’t buy it expecting it to be the next Twilight.
