Publisher's Summary

Captain James Hook was once a good man trying to make a somewhat honest living. He is a pirate, after all. However, after getting word that a boy named Peter Pan played a part in the death of a dear loved one, Hook makes it his sole purpose to hunt down and destroy the fiend.

On his journey for vengeance, the captain encounters many new comrades, including a young girl named Red and a fairy called Tinker Bell, and both push him to reconsider his desire for justice.

The accidental rescue of a mermaid leads him on a whirlwind adventure in Neverland. The journey is not a simple one, considering Pan, the Lost Boys, mermaids, and magic all come into play. After several misadventures, Hook must choose between the possibility of a new life with love and his much-desired retaliation against Pan.

Once everything is said and done, will the captain be able to overcome his need for revenge? Will he let compassion steer him toward love? Or will Captain Hook live up to his villainous reputation?

    "Get Swept Away"

From the moment the story began, I was swept away into this magical fairy tale full of mermaids, pirates, fairies and of course, Captain Hook and Peter Pan. The author has weaved a creative web that ensnares you and captivates you while the narrator pulls off a fantastic reading. I not only fell in love with this version of things but also by the narrator who did one heck of a job... and did I mention how well he pulls off all the voices?!

Come fall in love with this tale and get swept away by all of the action and adventure.

    I give this audiobook 5/5

"Excellent Retelling of an Old Tale"

We have all read and heard the stories of Peter Pan. We have even seen some glimpses of Captain Hook's origin... However, I guarantee you, you have NEVER heard of a tale as intriguing as Hooks' Little Mermaid! I was literally drawn in from the very beginning!
James Darcy has a way with telling this story that you can just see at all playing out in front of you! Listening to him read the female character dialog, he did such a good job! I didn't feel as though it was a guy trying to be a girl, nor did he sound like a girl... He was just so good as presenting it, everything just was! It flowed seamlessly!
Suzanna Lynn has retold a story that has been done countless times, and she has still managed to make this story new! I knew Captain Hook lost his hand to a crocodile, I knew he had a feud with Peter Pan. Yet this book, made me sit on the edge of my seat. This book, made me want to finish in one setting. This book, made me fall for Captain Hook.
Well played Ms. Lynn. Well played indeed!

    Story
"A fabulous re-telling of a classic fairy tale."

This tale is centered on Captain James Shaw, who we come to know as Captain Hook later on in story and his vengeful quest to take down his nemesis Peter Pan. Along the way we meet fairies, mermaids, witches and much more in this fabulous re-telling of a classic fairy tale.

Suzanna Lynn is a real class story teller! I absolutely loved the twist she put on this story and the fact it was told from "Hook's" point of view was very, very clever. I never thought I would find myself liking Captain Hook's character but in Hook's Little Mermaid, he went from Villain to hero.

I will never be able to look at Peter Pan the same ever again!!

James Darcy, as the narrator was perfect. I could have listened to this story over and over again. His narration was seamless as he navigated his way through the different characters featured in the book. His delivery of each the different characters was faultless making it easy to distinguish between each of them.

This is one of the best audio books I have listened to yet.

    "Hook with a twist!"

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Lynn and I was pleasantly surprised. I love how she meshed together the untold stories of Peter Pan/Capt. Hook/The Little Mermaid with a dash of Little Red Riding Hood.
Capt. Jameson Shaw is seeking his revenge on the person he feels is responsible for the death of his only son. In order to see this through he has a few hoops he must jump through because the person is none other than Peter Pan.
The cast of characters and dialogue was enough to keep me glued to the pages. Hook is charismatic, thoughtful, and even caring! Remember this is pre hook!

The narration was seamless with a good range of voices. I could easily tell the difference between the characters.

I'm definitely looking forward to the next installment of this series.

A copy of this audiobook was given to me by the author for my honest, unbiased review.

    "Nicely Written and Narrated"

Overall I found this story quite enjoyable! The plot was carefully thought out, and contained some good twists. I think the author really made a statement with the ending - the beginning of the book felt a bit like a stereotypical retelling of a classic story, but the ending had a good climax and allowed for the story to develop into a series. If you are familiar with the TV show "Once Upon a Time", you'll find that this book has some similarities. There were a few phrases within the book that were a bit redundant, but for someone who was a little nervous that this book would be somewhat cliché, I was pleasantly surprised. The narrator was absolutely perfect for the part of a pirate. There was a touch of gruffness and a feeling daring that worked well for the character. A few parts were told a little too matter-of-factly due to this, and lacked feeling in some areas, but the narration strengthened in the middle and towards the end. Other than that, he was everything you could hope for in a dashing pirate! Though not on my top shelf of all-time favorites, this book was good and will make for a great series!

    "Enjoyable Story"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it was a good retelling/ fairy tale mash up.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I enjoyed this book and found it fascinating how easy it was to blend The Little Mermaid with Peter Pan. Hook is a compelling main character, and I didn't guess all the twists right away. The ending was satisfactory, if not exactly happy, and I REALLY can't wait for the next book!

What about James Darcy’s performance did you like?

He did a good job with the different voices.

"Fun story! Good narration with creative flare!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Hook's Little Mermaid to be better than the print version?

It definitely brings its own element and really brings the characters to life. Love the narrator's fit with what I thought Hook should sound like.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Either Hook, or, very briefly, the old crone as her voice was awesome.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I liked the scene with the old crone and meeting Red Riding Hood. Also, I liked the very end how the book finished. Good, powerful narration.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I liked the twists and I liked the emotions that the narrator brings out through his narration.
