Darcyville...where stupidity is celebrated...with a deadly dose of sin.
Fifteen years ago, Darcy Walker's parents thought it was a good idea to give her a unique name: Darcy, meaning "dark walker". Whether that was a stroke of genius or stroke of stupid, they definitely nailed the irony. She lacks direction, her grades stink despite a high IQ, she's boringly average - although flirting admirers claim otherwise - and God help her, she's infatuated with a bad-boy.
A bad-boy that her hottie best friend, Dylan, wishes would get acquainted with his fist.
And, oh yeah, there's that tattoo that was a royally stupid idea.
With her life spiraling out of control, everything changes when she skips class and finds a dead body...in fact, it gets worse. It jump-starts Darcy's inner-verb, and her brain hardwired for action gets caught up in a situation she can't let go.
Set in the fictional Cincinnati town of Valley, Ohio, Darcy's story falls into a world of threats, violence, and gangland exploits chasing down every clue to finger the murderer. When a fellow misfit is fingered for the crime, Darcy goes from zero to 60 trying to clear his name - constructing aliases, breaking the law, everything that makes perfect sense to her but reeks of Grade A Stupid to everyone else.
Trouble is...will she live to see 16?

This story will have you laughing from the beginning to the end. Darcy sure knows how to get herself into trouble. She is a 15 year old girl who has a mind that thinks different that other fifteen year olds. The words that come out of her mouth will make you laugh so hard that if you are around anyone they will want to know what is so funny. This story has everything from blossoming romance to murder mystery. What else do you need in a story? There are so many characters in this story that you will not figure out the mystery until the very end. Just when you think, all the mysteries are solved, we have more at the end so now onto the next book in this series to find out what else Darcy will get into. This author is amazing with how she keeps up with all these characters in this story. Loved this story and this is the second time I have read it. Just as good as the first time.
No Brainer and 100 Proof Stud. They are part of this series.
She brought out many different tones of the characters and since Darcy is a teenager and gets into so much trouble, it is brought to life. We get to hear and it all sounds like a movie coming to life.
This book is hilarious and will having you laugh out and no matter who is around they will hear you. Loved every bit of it.
Love to listen to No Brainer and 100 Proof Stud in The Darcy Walker series.
Special thanks to my girls Stacy, Sash and Stef for sharing the Audible experience with me and for being there during my multiple recoveries
A great first young adult novel by a talented writer who had written an extremely amusing and entertaining work. The protagonist is fifteen year old Darcy Walker, an underachiever with a measured IQ of 160 and a bad case of ADD. Darcy is sweet, likable and at times is quite courageous; at other times she is so passive that she can't manage to get a word out of her mouth.
I realize that behavioral consistency from a fifteen year old girl with ADD is a ridiculous concept but it does strain credulity for her to take on a street gang without taking a backward step, but be afraid to confront "mean girl" Ivy.
Too many of the book's characters are one dimensional and not particularly likable. The relationship between Darcy and Dreamboat Dylan is dysfunctional to the point that drug therapy and relationship counseling should be commenced immediately. The same is true for the aforementioned Ivy and her boyfriend Jagger Kane; and on again, off again couple noted for assaulting each other physically publicly.
Despite these problems my daughter and I both recommend this selection and this author. We look forward to the next installment in the life of Darcy Walker, though with more three dimensional, as well as more likable characters
I really enjoyed the narrator for this book. I have plenty of books on Audible, but this has become one of my favorite. She sounds exactly how I imagine Darcy would. Her voice and tone of each situation and character was so authentic. I loved how she switched her voice for Murphy... so Kentucky!! I loved it. I've been a fan of this series, but being able to listen to Darcy, as she stumbles thru her adventure was almost like reading it for the first time.
Listening to Patricia Fructuoso bring Darcy to life was amazing to listen to with Darcy's ability to finding trouble. Caught myself talking to the audio more than once was very caught up in the story.
I enjoyed the dumpster diving.
The way Darcy constantly got herself into trouble. I love the humor in it as well, there's never a dull moment.
No I haven't. I completely enjoyed it and thought she was truly Darcy.
Yes, when Dylan fought Eddie to keep Darcy safe. It made you wonder exactly how deeply he loved her.
I love Darcy she's a hoot and always getting into something
The dumpster scene
Darcy and her wild and colorful self was definitely my favorite character
This book will keep you laughing as you follow Darcy and her friends on some wild and exciting adventures
This story is very entertaining and is read and brought to life in a way that just reading it can't do. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for laughs and some adventure.
Defiantly top 5 :-)
I would have to say when Darcy ate the Jesus Cookie.
I liked Darcy but I also liked Dillon :-)
Hell yeah I would.
I would defiantly recommend Grade A Stupid to all of my friends I loved the characters and the story line. I can't wait to read or listen to the rest of Darcy's story :-)
I am an avid reader , but I travel a lot now, so it can be difficult to read books. Audiobooks allows me to listen to my favorite books !
I would recommend this audiobook to anyone, both teen and adult. Grade A Stupid is wrought with laugh-out-loud humor, heart pounding action, and a lot of heart. I love Darcy Walker as a character and the actress brought Darcy, as well as the other beloved characters in this book, to life.
There were many memorable scenes, but one that stands out is in the police evidence room with her encounter with Jinx's Dad. Dylan's Party was also memorable. (I don't want to give spoilers!) I also loved her awkward and sweet scenes with Dylan.
Patricia is an excellent voice actress and even though she did several male voices, it still worked. Each character had his or her own voice and she switched voices fluently. I always knew exactly who was talking. Her voice for both Darcy and Ivory were perfection!
I was very impressed with Patricia and how she brought Grade A Stupid to life. The author of the Book, AJ Lape, is an excellent author and she created a dynamic and memorable character in Darcy Walker and in the other beloved characters in the book. I listened to the audiobook whenever I was traveling. Many times my listening was broken up and I would listen a couple hours here, half an hour there... Fifteen minutes another time. Each time I was completely sucked into the story immediately. I didn't have to take time to get back into the story mindset. I loved that.
I can't wait until all of the Darcy Walker series is on audiobook, hopefully using Patricia as the lead for Darcy again!
Patricia Fructuoso really brought Darcy to life for me. The other characters were well portrayed, but I think she nailed Darcy, spot on.
Darcy Walker is amazing. Everyone needs a friend like her. She doesn't judge, but she isn't naive. She may be accident prone and tend to get into more trouble than good. But, she's a teenage private eye. You must cause some trouble to get the real answers in her world.
I loved Patricia Fructuoso. I really could feel the characters come to life through her. She was so cute.
I am a huge fan the Darcy Walker series. I read this book before I listened to audio and I'm glad I did both. The narrator must have felt a connection with the main characters because I was enthralled with her story throughout the entire book. Well written story and well narrated audio.
Grade A Stupid is one of the best audiobooks that I have listened to. The story is great, but the narration of Patricia Fructuoso really brings the story to life. Definitely one I will listen to again. I cannot wait to hear the second book in the Darcy Walker series.
