Publisher's summary

The riveting conclusion to Scott Westerfeld’s New York Times best-selling trilogy that’s “sure to become a classic” (School Library Journal).

Alek and Deryn are on the last leg of their round-the-world quest to end World War I, reclaim Alek’s throne as Prince of Austria, and finally fall in love. The first two objectives are complicated by the fact that their ship, the Leviathan, continues to detour farther away from the heart of the war (and crown). And the love thing would be a lot easier if Alek knew Deryn was a girl. (She has to pose as a boy in order to serve in the British Airforce.) And if they weren’t technically enemies.

The tension thickens as the Leviathan steams toward New York City with a homicidal lunatic onboard: secrets suddenly unravel, characters reappear, and nothing is at it seems in this thunderous conclusion to Scott Westerfeld’s brilliant trilogy.

Wow!

Barking spiders! What a fantastic, breathtaking finale to this great series! If you enjoyed Leviathan and Behemoth, you will not be disappointed with Goliath. This is edge-of-your-seat, high-stakes, nonstop adventure, with plenty of humor, drama, history and everything fans of this series have come to expect. If you have not read or listened to Leviathan or Behemoth, DO IT NOW!

Alan Cumming gives another virtuoso performance in this third installment, and his ability to give a different voice and accent to every single character (human or otherwise) - while maintaining Westerfeld's lightening-fast, witty dialog and downright cinematic action sequences - continues to be astonishing.

I also recommend picking up print versions of this series, if you can, because Keith Thompson's intricate illustrations add a whole new dimension to the books, providing great visual aids. I actually read this in print first, and then listened to the audio version afterward.

The only downside is that now the trilogy is complete, unless Westerfeld decides to continue the adventures of Deryn, Alek & Co. in a new series (which he certainly leaves the story open for...fingers crossed!).

Five stars all around!

Outstanding finale!

What did you love best about Goliath?

I loved their visit to Japan the best. Deryn and Aleks eat noodles at a roving noodle cart, and that scene has stuck in my mind!

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Well, the ending is left open so that there could be a sequel. Please, Mr Westerfeld, we'd like more Deryn and Alek!

What about Alan Cumming’s performance did you like?

He's hilarious and does such a funny job with the German accents.

Any additional comments?

If you have listened to the earlier two, you are already downloading this one! If you haven't, go download Leviathan and you'll soon be downloading this one as well. ;)

A Satisfying Conclusion to a Wonderful Trilogy!

So often young adult series' with a romantic subplot wrap up the trllogy by focusing on the romance and in doing so betray the swashbuckling and independent female protagonists character (yes Hunger Games, I am looking at you). No so with Goliath, which wraps up the adventure and romance of the previous two installments without losing the spirit of adventure that made the first two books so entertaining. I highly recommend this series!

Amazing ending for an amazing series.

The third and final book of this series, was by far worth the wait I had to endure. I won't spoil the story, however the series changing twist happens halfway through. This change doesn't kill the book, there are far more twists to come. I only wish that a second series would follow, the changes made to the world seem only open up the story even more.

Fantastic trilogy ending

I loved Leviathan, but thought Behemoth lagged at bit. Goliath has restored my faith in this story. While this book had a couple of odd, unbelievable bits (the Tesla storyline was odd), the main plots of: Deryn's secret, her future as a soldier, Alec's future as a prince, and their relationship are quite satisfactory. We see more of the lady boffin and Deryn gets to be quite adventurous and daring. Alan Cumming is, as always, a fantastic narrator. Highly recommended (but read/listen to the first two books first!)

SJW orgasm

Girl is amazing and dresses as boy. Prince throws away royal heritage to be with her. Vomit. Gross. Baizuo fantasy. Thank goodness I listened to it before buying the books for my son.

The best of the bunch!

Westerfeld shows readers exactly how a conclusion book should read with GOLIATH; the last and by far the best of the Leviathan trilogy, ending it with quite a bang (on all fronts). But even with the series finishing out properly, I can’t say it won’t be missed. I admit I fell in love a little bit more with each thrilling installment. I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to a spin-off???..What do ya say Scott?

Well, whether or not we get another taste of Alek and Deryn or the addictive and exciting steampunk/biopunk world of Westerfeld’s creation is to be seen, but as for now, readers are sure to become quick fans of the daft Austrian prince, the not so common Midshipman and their adventures on the Leviathan, in this fast paced action pack world of power hungry rulers, nutter scientists, manufactured beasties and iron war machines. Bravo and well-done! And as always, Cumming outdoes himself in the narration... brilliant performance!!

Exciting Conclusion

This whole series is good. This final episode wraps it up really well. The narration is great and the characters are very believable for a fantasy work.

Entrancing and magical

The story continues after Leviathon, not missing a beat or a step. The characters are fantastic and the writing is wonderful. My whole family, including we parents, have fallen in love with this series of books and have read and listened to them several times. Having Alan Cumming narrate adds the the magic, fun and humor of the story. If I asked my children, they would probably give the books several more stars than allowed.

Favortie book of the series

I enjoyed this listen, I liked how Westerfeld wrapped up the trilogy and of course I loved the ending but I won't go into that! The writing was great and again the performance was FANTASTIC. I can't believe one person can successfully imitate so many different accents.

The characters were wonderfully interesting and the plot adventurous and exciting. Good listen!
