Set in the world of the New York Times best-selling Seven Realms series, a generation later, this is a breathtaking story of dark magic, chilling threats, and two unforgettable characters walking a knife-sharp line between life and death. This dazzling beginning to a new series is indispensable for fans of Cinda Williams Chima and a perfect starting point for listeners who are new to her work.
Adrian sul'Han, known as Ash, is a trained healer with a powerful gift of magic - and a thirst for revenge. Ash is forced into hiding after a series of murders throws the queendom into chaos. Now he's closer than ever to killing the man responsible, the cruel king of Arden. With time running out, Ash faces an excruciating choice: Can he use his powers not to save a life but to take it?
Abandoned at birth, Jenna Bandelow was told that the magemark on the back of her neck would make her a target. But when the King's Guard launches a relentless search for a girl with a mark like hers, Jenna assumes that it has more to do with her role as a saboteur than any birth-based curse. Though Jenna doesn't know why she's being hunted, she knows that she can't get caught.
Eventually Ash's and Jenna's paths will collide in Arden. Thrown together by chance and joined by their hatred of the ruthless king, they will come to rescue each other in ways they cannot yet imagine.

I was going through
my library and thought - hey, the seven reaLms saga was a great series and I wish there was more. then I went to chima's site and found out a sequel came out only the day before.
I don't normally like it when new characters take over; but this was great. the mc is the son of the previous mc's and it would be hard to explain the story without giving much away. so I will say that the style remains true to the previous books air and the narrator - actually I had a hard time believing she wasn't Carol Monda. she did every bit as great a job.
A great sequel. I didn't expect the book to carry its own when sequels come out you think it will never be as good as the original, but I surpassed all expectations and holds it own along with weaving the story we fell in love with in to its own captivating story.
Falmecasrer was an entertaining story but outcomes were expected. Delightful story but no surprises. There has to be another book and I hope this one was a setup for an exciting read in the next book.
this is a lot like Argon or Dragon Riders. I did love the narrator. She was very into the characters. Made me feel like I was watching a movie while listening to the story. very good job all the way around. looking forward to hearing what happened with Jenna and the Dragon n if the Wolf n her ever saw each other again.
Not a great book, I had such high hopes. Without giving away too much what caused this book to fail for me were two things.
1. The instant romance between the main characters, it was so sudden I went back and re-listened to the lead up chapters to see if I missed the chemistry, the build up,i hadn't missed anything. It had happened without chemistry,or build up.
2. The secondary characters had much better back stories and more interesting personalities than the main characters.
So read at your own risk.
This story draws on almost every fantasy standard that's out there. Evil kings, power, magic, and more. There are some twists in the plot but everything continues to be a standard fantasy tale. What makes the tale interesting are the characters. You instantly care about them and their story and what is going to happen to them. It's a good casual listen/read. The vocal performance is awesome. I'm glad I listened to this book.
I like the book a lot, but the narrator wasn't my favorite. Some of the characters sound the same and it was hard to follow if conversation was moving quickly. Overall, the story and the book itself are great!
Already looking forward to the next one. Excellent turn of events from the other series, some familiar names and places, spun upside down into new places and new favorite charcters.
Chima does a great job of pulling you into a new story set in a familiar setting. A young adult novel for sure, but still a great story for any book lover. A much better return to a series than her enchanters and sorcerers heir installments. This book has thieving, new magic, assassins, ponies, knife fights, and even arson. Maybe even a little romance thrown into the mix (what'd you expect from a young adult novel). Truly looking forward to her next installment.
