He is absolutely against girls becoming knights. So while he is forced to train her, Wyldon puts her on probation for one year. It is a trial period that no male page has ever had to endure and one that separates the good-natured Kel even more from her fellow trainees during the tough first year. But Kel is not a girl to underestimate, as everyone is about to find out.

    "Loved it"

I loved all the charactors in the book. Found myself listening to it twice because I tend to miss areas while working. I purchased the second in the series as soon as I was done, and I'm now on the forth in the series.

    "Great Story, Mediocre Narrator"

I really love this book and series, but miss Full-Cast Audio just as much. The narrator does make voices terribly, I had trouble telling characters apart, and the 10 year old heroine has a deeper voice than many of the male characters, even older ones. However, she does read pretty smoothly, and I didn't notice any pronunciation problems.

I was a 'readaholic' for most of my life. I started crochet and other hobbies. That took away from my reading time. I discovered audio books at the library. That set me off. now, that I am older my eyes make it too difficult to read. So I now am a very diligent audio book listener!

    "Not bad"

I enjoyed the book. A female is trying to fit into what is considered a male setting. This goes on today. The hazing as described is all to real in real life. This adds a realistic feel to the book despite its fantasy setting. My biggest complaint is the reader's voice is a little to old for the characters involved. It detracts little from the story but takes a little getting used too.

    "Amazing Book!"

A lovable yet strong protagonist, a serious plot dealing with modern day sexism, and a more-than-decent narrator. What more could you want?

    "Solid Entry in Another Series"

This book is another great entry in the Tortall Universe. The story is a great intro, but not the best. It does an awesome job of establishing and developing new characters who grow with the story. If you like any of Tamora Pierce's other books then you will love this one!

"this book got me hooked on reading!"

Growing up I was more into outside games so when we moved to Montana where it was freezing cold I found myself inside with nothing to do. A friend gave me this book and I have loved it ever since.

    "Great book"

Tamora Pierce continues to be fantastic reading for pre-teen and teen girls everywhere. Bernadette Dunn has an American accent but is clear to listen to. Can we have more of the back catalogue of Pierce's books soon, please?
