A huge fan of Jane Austen, Danielle hopes to find her own Mr. Darcy when she leaves Colorado to attend art school in London. Of course she knows it's silly to wish for that, naive even. But she's met enough males who lacked respect for women, a growing trend it seemed. And at 19...well... However, on only her second night there she gets lost and is threatened by a stalker who proves to be immune to her martial-arts training. Before she is completely overpowered, she is then saved by Ethan Deveroux.
While Danielle does find the romance she seeks in Ethan, he's no Mr. Darcy. Her hero is held by a spell which fractures their chance at a happy ending. During the day Ethan is closer to mortal than immortal and can date her like any other man. Yet, as the sun sets, the powerful magic of an ancient curse returns and the evil of that spell is revealed. When that magic begins, Danielle's fairy-tale romance ends because Ethan Deveroux is a vampire.

Live on Ranch & I have a lot of time to listen to books. Love books that are Action-Mysteries-Fantasy-supernatural, with a little romance 2.
What did you like about this audio book?
I read this book several years ago and was delighted to hear that it is now available in audio. I really love the mix of fantasy elements with the current world and time. I enjoyed the tight family relationships on both the vampire side and human side. The romance is sweet and clean, and the food sounds divine. I also love the unexpected direction this book takes on Vampire lore.
How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?
I’ve always enjoyed a good romance between vampires and humans. Fateful focuses more on the romance than the standard violent nature of the genre.
Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?
Yes! So much of this story is in the tiny details. The author does a great job in giving enough info to set the scene, but not so much that you lose track of the real story.
What did you find wrong about the narrator’s performance?
The narrator was fabulous. He has such a soothing/sexy voice that draws you into the story, and he gives the characters so much individual personality and emotion! If there was something ‘wrong’ with his performance, I didn’t hear it.
If you love clean romance with a touch of fantasy, give Fateful a try! I’m looking forward to hearing the next audio version in the series.
Ingenious, invigorating, surprising
Danielle because she is so easy to relate to and likeable from the very start. She makes you WANT to follow her through this book and any others to follow.
No, however I quickly fell in love with the characters due to the development from the author in print and the portrayal by Tristan in the audio version.
Look out Twilight fans…this book is definitely a tough competitor in the vampire world. First, I am usually wary about listening to the audible version of books especially because I love to leave the character’s personalities to my own imagination. Schmidt (author) and Tristan (narrator) definitely changed my opinion for this book as I both read and listened to the story. I can’t express enough my unexpected surprise at how well the audio version portrayed the story SO closely to what I envisioned.
Ingenious storyline filled with plenty of the unexpected with unanticipated happenings that keep you wanting more all the way to upcoming releases. At the end of the story I was ecstatic that there would be more to come as this is Book One in a series. I fell in love with each and every character especially Danielle & Ethan who were very well developed. The highlight is that this is not your ordinary vampire plot and when done will be at the top of your recommendation list for this genre. Thrilled for Book Two!

Adored the combination of the narrator's deep voice and British accent with the vampires' older forms of speech. It gave the story an old world feel and the cadence and tone of the storytelling was masterfully done.
This story had a twist on vampire lore that was both fascinating and surprising. Loved it and loved the characters, Danielle and Ethan.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a good vampire romance--like me! :)
Will look for more books by this author for sure!
A book reading, artistic geek who loves movies, vampires and all things spooky.
I would def recommend this to a friend! I loved the paperback so when I had the chance to hear it being read I couldn't say no, and it didn't disappoint!!!
I love Danielle. She is a very easy charecter to like. She's like any normal girl and love that she is easy to relate to. I could look at the decisions she makes and be like "o yeah I would have done that". Plus she hates spiders. :)
I love Tristan's smooth voice, and that he he changes it up slightly per charecter. Instantly fell in love with him :)
There was but I can't discuss it without spoilers. But OMG Ethan just makes you look at your current significant other and go "really? Why can't you be like that?"
If you like romance, vampires, a bit of magic, curses, gardens, and true love this book is def for you.
I fell in love with the characters from this series from the beginning. Danielle was a girl that was multi-dimensional and fun, tough, yet sweet. Ethan was a man that was flawed and cursed by something out of his control, but totally a gentleman and totally lovable. Their chemistry together was magic.
There were so many moments in this book that made me laugh, or made my heart melt. I love how Ethan cooks for her. That to me is a man worth keeping! :) I think some of my favourite moments are the quiet moments between the two main characters. There's something so sweet and peaceful about their romance, and their time together when all of the other characters are kind of waiting in the wings, so to speak. I loved those moments because they were the most tender, and really allowed the characters to shine.
I love that the romance in this book is sweet, but not explicit. I love the character building, and all of the different fantasy characters like werewolves, vampires, and fairies. And I LOVE the settings in this book. They completely pull you in, and make you feel like you are part of the story. Such a beautiful book, and a beautiful series.
I read the book and listened to the audio version as well. I loved how the narrators voice drew you in and made you feel as if you were truly inside the story.
It was creative. I loved all of the magical elements of this story, including the whimsical. I can't wait to finish the series to see what other delicious treats the author has in store.
I loved the scene when Ethan took Danielle to see the fairies.
This was a great start to a fascinating and creative series. The author did a fantastic job of creating a world full of intrigue, romance, and adventure.
This is my favorite audiobook I've listened to so far.
It's similar to Twilght, in that the girl in the stroy discovers she loves a vamipire and circumstances force her to rely on him and his fellow vampires for safety and protection. It's also very romantic.
The narratation really drew me into the story.
This book made a long drive go by in an instant; after I arrived I looked forward to hearing more every night! I was away for work and it was a great way to escape into a different world for a while. I really missed the characters when it was over and look forward to the next in the series!
This book drew me in from the first word out of the narrator's mouth. The writing is tight and imaginative and the narrator's voice is like the finest chocolate, silky smooth. I am anxiously anticipating the next in the series.
Tristan Hunt, the narrator of Fateful, did an amazing job bringing author Cheri Schmidt's words & characters to life. I forgot I was listening to just one person narrating he was so good at switching voices!
Really enjoyed the different take on vampires. This book has a lot twists and turns.
when they were trapped in the room.
"Will leave you desperate for the sequel"
Already read twice and listened twice!
MAX! The way Tristan brings Max to life is wonderful, I feel like I know max as a jokey big brother role.
Personally I listen while I'm chilling in bed getting ready to sleep or doing something like ironing to keep me interested! I couldn't listen in one sitting due to the length but its definitely hard to put down.
Go for the sequel, ir does not disappoint!
Emotional, beautiful and soulful.
Danielle because I feel like I can relate to her as a person and I happen to get lost easily also and I also love romance books.
Danielle's uncle Nick, there was a part were he was telling a story and Tristan spoke in such a perfect tone that even I felt shivers.
Ethan protects Danielle from spiders even at his darkest point, the fact that he still wishes to protect her from any harm almost reduced me to tears.
I loved this book. If you like chivalrous polite romantic men who also happen to be heroic with an angelic face then this is the book for you. This story is full of passion and true love which only grows stronger with every word you read. This is only the first book in this beautifully written series.
Get Fractured and Forever to complete this fantastic trilogy, I guarantee it will be one of the best series you will ever read brilliantly written by Cheri Schmidt. If you prefer audio books then get the first book right now, narrated perfectly by Tristan Hunt. Definitely a 5 star rating from me.
It was great to hear the story as I could listen to what my imagination had conjured after reading the book.
