For centuries, mystical creatures of all description were gathered to a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic in a cynical world. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite... She's too tall to blend in with other humans but too short to be taken seriously as a giant. When family intrigues force Karn and Thianna to flee into the wilderness, they have to keep their sense of humor and their wits about them. But survival can be challenging when you're being chased by a 1,500-year-old dragon, an evil uncle, wyverns, and an assortment of trolls and giants.

In the endless forests of the Wild, humanity scratches a living by the side of the great Godroads, paths of crystal that provide safe passage and hold back the infernal tide. Creatures lurk within the trees, watching, and plucking those who stray too far from safety. In crystal castles held aloft on magical currents, seven timeless royal families reign, protecting humanity from the spread of the Wild and its demons. D-Day, June 6, 1944: the most expansive military endeavor in history. No less than world cooperation would bring down Hitler and the Axis powers. And so people - and kids - across the globe lent their part. From the young US soldiers in the boats to spies in the French countryside, the coordination of thousands came together. Alan Gratz, author of the New York Times best-selling Refugee, explores the necessity of teamwork and heroism in dismantling tyranny in this epic, yet personal, look at D-Day in time for the 75th anniversary of the operation.

5 for story, 1 for performance
Fablehaven is one of my favorite series. I've read the books more than a couple times. This was my first time with the audio versions and I'm debating on whether or not to finish because of the way E.B. Stevens performs my beloved characters. I don't consider myself to be overly feminist, but the way he depicts the many strong female characters is insulting. He gives almost every one, even Grandma Sorensen, an attitude when the story and character description doesn't call for it at all. Everything Kendra says comes out with a bratty stereotypical "entitled teenage girl" tone, as if he pictures her speaking to everyone with a hand on one hip and rolling her eyes. And that is not Kendra. It makes me sad to think there are young audiences out there experiencing this amazing series for the first time through his warped understanding of these characters. It changes the entire tone of the series. Kendra is both strong AND kind. She loves her brother, and that's evident even when he annoys her, but you wouldn't get that from how he reads it. If it were subtle or only happened sporadically, I could move on. But it's distracting enough to make me hesitant to purchase the remaining two books.

Love Fablehaven!!! These books are fantastic fun!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is a must for children or anyone for that matter. The whole series is a must read but this one in particular has a few of my favorite elements. The other magical creature preserve they visit is spectacular. The pacing is perfect, the descriptions really bring you there, this is a magical vacation. Now I'm just waiting for the rest of the series to come up.
What did you like best about this story?
It's fun and light and magical.
Which character – as performed by E. B. Stevens – was your favorite?
E. B. Stevens is not my favorite (sry) but favorite characters abound none the less. Patton is an obvious standout and the voice of the demon was well done.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Forget Hogwarts, leave Narnia behind the real adventure awaits at Fablehaven! (please god say they are making these into movies!)
Any additional comments?
Not to be missed.

Fun story. Horrible narration.
The story isn't bad and I like that it is kid friendly, but this is the worst narrator I've ever heard.

Great story, narration is awful
I love this book series but the narrator ruins the audiobook, I would just read the book and don’t waste a credit.
