Publisher's summary

A Nightmare on Elm Street meets Inception in this gripping psychological thriller from international best-selling author Amy Plum.

Seven teenagers who suffer from debilitating insomnia agree to take part in an experimental new procedure to cure it because they think it can't get any worse. But they couldn't be more wrong.

When the lab equipment malfunctions, the patients are plunged into a terrifying dream world where their worst nightmares have come to life - and they have no memory of how they got there. Hunted by monsters from their darkest imaginations and tormented by secrets they'd rather keep buried, these seven strangers will be forced to band together to face their biggest fears. And if they can't find a way to defeat their dreams, they will never wake up.

Dreamfall is perfect for fans of dark and edgy young adult novels from authors like Danielle Vega, Natasha Preston, Kendare Blake, and Madeleine Roux. It is the first book in a spine-tingling duology full of action, suspense, and horror that's sure to keep listeners on the edges of their seats until the very end.

OTHER REVIEWERS ARE SPOILING PLOT POINTS

What made the experience of listening to Dreamfall the most enjoyable?

The narrators. They have lovely voices that are not monotone. Listening to them will not lull you to sleep or at least have not for me.

What did you like best about this story?

The overall idea. Some of the writing is... well I cringed! HOWEVER overall the writing was not bad at all. I cared for the characters.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

Fergus. The others I really like as well. A close second is Ant.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I chuckled a few times because we have all come across some of the situations that are conveyed in the book.

I did hold back tears on a few climactic areas through the book. For me, the book was immersive enough with the narration for me to emotional invest in the story as a whole.

Any additional comments?

Person reading review please beware that OTHER REVIEWERS have taken it upon themselves to put in surprises/plot point stuff from the book into their review. If you want to go in not knowing anything or the bare minimum then I made this review for ya. If you choose to read the other reviews then do it at your own risk. Not all reviews gave spoilers but several I read did and it took a little away from my experience because of it.

Have a wonderful day and hope you enjoy the book.

Some Twisted and Creepy Fun! (Book 1 of 2!!)

What did you love best about Dreamfall?

I'd say that the last dream was my favorite and so insane! As a whole book, however, I think I like the general premise and that these kids are all trapped in this world. Their only hope of surviving is really unclear. So many questions and, since it's part of a duology (I asked the author on goodreads), they won't be answered until the next one is out.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dreamfall?

The "static monster" was such an interesting part of the story. I can't really say why, because it would ruin that part of the story; however, I think that was one of the most memorable 'characters' and the scenes where "it" is there are definitely memorable.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I don't believe so. ALL of the narrators did an amazing job, but two were a little better than the other... but only slightly. I don't want to sound like I'm judging, but the narrator with the lisp was slightly distracting. He did a good job and I don't want to say that he wasn't good for the role of Jamie, but his parts were a little harder to listen to than the others. (I believe that it was Tom Phelan, but I am NOT sure at all. I haven't researched this at all--but, seriously, it was only mildly distracting)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Possibly. It's pretty intense, so I probably would need a break to listen or watch something funny. It is definitely an "edge of your seat" kind of listen, so I imagine, in a physical book, it would be considered a page-turner.

Any additional comments?

THIS IS BOOK 1 OF 2!! I initially wanted to listen to a standalone and didn't realize that it was part of a duology. Just a warning for those who this matters to. I just didn't want to have to wait to hear/read the rest of the story, but now I'm going to have to do so. Luckily, it left me with enough to sustain me for a while. Plus, it was really good and so I'm not disappointed about purchasing it.

So, basically I want to say that this isn't the best-written, best performed, or greatest book of all time; it was just so interesting and I had such a good time listening to it. I don't want people to read this review and feel as though I've lied to them after they finish. I'm just saying that this kind of book is interesting and enjoyable to me, so that's why I think I gave it the four stars. If the story was a little less entertaining, I wouldn't have hesitated to give it a 3 or a 2, but I just had so much fun with this one! I definitely recommend this one as a entertaining, simple read that'll keep you intrigued and turning pages/listening longer than you thought you would!

Awesome Story

Disappointed that book 2 is not available on Audible. Great story, very original. I need to find book 2 somewhere.

Cliffhanger Book, Not Worth Finishing

This book ends about halfway through a thin story - it’s not worth starting and definitely not worth finishing.

As the blurb clearly explains, teenagers in a sleep experiment end up in a nightmare world.
The characters do not remember this though and they spend the poorly plotted book slowly remembering what was explained to us in chapter one.

I guess I’m supposed to buy the sequel to actually get the plot I was promised? Pass.

Sure I think the inept author was attempting a twist or two but if you can’t immediately pick them from the clunky sign posting and convenient delay devices….well maybe you’re young enough to be even moderately impressed by the juvenile ‘horror’ she attempts.

Strongly do not recommend.
