Publisher's summary

The first in an enthralling new mini-series of novellas from the number-one best-selling authors of the House of Night, Dragon’s Oath tells the story behind the House of Night’s formidable fencing instructor – the love that will transform him, and the promise that will haunt him.

In early 19th-century England, long before he’s a professor at the Tulsa House of Night, Bryan Lankford is a troublesome yet talented human teen who thinks he can get away with anything… until his father, a wealthy nobleman, has finally had enough, and banishes him to America. When Bryan is Marked on the docks and given the choice between the London House of Night and the dragon-prowed ship to America, he chooses the Dragon - and a brand new fate.

Becoming a Fledgling may be exciting, but it opens a door to a dangerous world.... In 1830's St. Louis, the Gateway to the West, Dragon Lankford becomes a Sword Master, and soon realizes there are both frightening challenges and beautiful perks - like Anastasia, the captivating young Professor of Spells and Rituals at the Tower Grove House of Night, who really should have nothing to do with a fledgling. But when a dark power threatens, Dragon is caught in its focus. Though his uncanny fighting skills make him a powerful fledgling, is he strong enough to ward off evil, while protecting Anastasia as well? Will his choices save her - or destroy them all?

Dragon's Oath-review

I've been looking forward to this novella for a while now. Dragon Lankford was my favorite of Zoe's instructors. I always knew there was more to him than beat the eye. This is the story of how he came to be a vampire & how he fell in love with his Anastasia. The mother daughter team tie the modern day story line in perfectly. it is truely a great read! PC & Kristin Cast. Caitlin Davies was superb. I truely love narrators that act when they read. Her voice is young & refreshing. She did a truly great job!

I’m Disappointed in 🐲

House of Night Novellas #1; House of Night #8.5

This story takes place in the few minutes following the funeral scene in AWAKENED. It’s mostly written as a flashback to when 🐲 and Anastasia first started to get together. It was sweet and gave us HoN readers more insight into who their characters are and what they’re about. I like 🐲 but his response to Nix’s reminder to “Hold to his oath” in AWAKENED bothered me. After reading/listening to this “bothered” has shifted into my feeling straight out disappointment at 🐲’s choices. I understand that we all respond to grief differently however he’s majorly screwing up.

This was a great addition to the HoN world. I’ll happily buy more of these novellas so I can learn more about the secondary characters in the series. What a great concept the Cast duo came up with when they thought of the idea.

Caitlin Davies did an exceptional job with the narration. She easily draws the listener into the story. She’s a wonderful performer.

Great book but

Its a great book but should have been set between books 8 & 9 instead of being marked as 9.1 as that is incorrect as the story goes between books 8 & 9.

Listen to or read after book 8!

I felt like it was a great back story about not only Dragon but Anastasia as well! It really helped me build the characters in my mind better. Only suggestion is to listen or read it after book 8, that’s where it really stems from! I do really like Caitlin Davies but do wish for this book they could have had a male reading it but none the less it was still well done!

This Novella Made my Day!

I was really upset when I was reading the House of Night Series and there was a long stretch where Professor Dragon Langford was angry with Nyx and the rest of the House of Night. Spoiler Alert - Then Dragon died upholding his oath to Nyx and to his love Anastasia. I was really happy that P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast wrote this novella because it explained how Dragon came to be, how he fell in love with Anastasia and then what his oath was. It made me feel a lot better about his character since this part of the House of Night Series was getting darker and more than a little depressing. Do Not get me wrong, I love the House of Night Series but I was getting very depressed with the story until the Novellas came out.
Great Book, Love this Series!

Great Story Good Performance

I loved this story. Dragon Lankford was a character to me that really could have used more character building in the House of Night. This book fulfill this and really lets you know about him, his love, and how he became the man he was. However I do wish a man would have read his part but overall I did like the performance.

You Won't Be Disappointed!

I think this book is by far the best of the House of Night series; even though this is one of the short novella's. I do not tell any of the story line in my reviews because I don't like anyone telling me any part of any book. Just let me know if it is worth my credit or not. For me, Dragon came to life in this one and end up one of my very favorite characters. I really enjoyed this one.
