Soon, he's doing all he can to succeed and not embarrass his new partner, Thea. When Seb hears rumors that an old danger is reemerging, he and Thea begin to investigate. Armed only with their determination and the dragon they both ride, Thea and Seb may be the only defense against the Darkening that threatens to sweep the land. Together, they will have to learn to work together to save their kingdom...or die trying.

If it weren't for physics, law enforcement, and my medication, I'd be unstoppable!
This was an excellent book with a solid storyline and great narration. I was impressed with the writing and thought that all of the characters were very believable. Overall I have nothing but good things to say.
On the day that happens every 4 years, the young dragons are released from their enclosure to choose their riders. The book centers around the two riders chosen by a rare red dragon. One is a girl from an aristocratic family with a long history of dragon riders, and the other is the unlikely son of a poor blacksmith in the slums.
The two vastly different riders and their dragon struggle to get along and keep up with their classmates, becoming one of the best performing teams in the school. However, rumors and whispers of trouble in the north are prevalent. Stories of an old enemy returning to destroy the realm reach even the King's ears. To make matters worse, no one seems to care or know anything about it. The two fresh dragon riders are determined to investigate and find out if the rumors are true, and if the ancient enemy has returned to threaten the realm.
The narration in this book was top notch. She did a great job switching back and forth between the male and female voices. 5 stars for her.
All-in-all I thought this was a great book and would recommend it for anyone who likes fantasy books.

"Prepare for war".
I enjoyed the fact that it is a lighter take on the fantasy genre, while retaining enough depth to keep the reader interested and looking forward to the next chapter. Also being an animal lover, I naturally took a liking to the dragons in the story and their interactions with their riders and caregivers.
I think that Agathea was my favorite performance. While none of the character's motivations run terribly deep, the narrator makes the most of Agathea by really bringing out her internal conflict of living up to her family's name and history vs. what she feels to be right. The narrator does a good job capturing the anger in the character in the early stages of the book as well.
I didn't have any extreme reactions, but the book did have me smiling a good bit. Almost every interaction between the main characters and their dragon was interesting and fun. The main antagonists, while simple, did provide enough opposition to make me actively dislike them.
In a genre that can sometimes be very intimidating (especially for newer readers) because so many titles are parts of a larger or very much more complicated story, Dragon Trials stands apart in being very accessible to the reader. This would make a good stand-alone read, or a good gateway into the fantasy world for those looking to try the genre for the first time. The plot moves quickly and without dead spots, the characters are easy to like, and the book ends on a good "neutral" ground between cliffhanger and definite conclusion. Overall a fun read, and a good intro into what appears to be a promising series. Looking forward to the next one!

Loved this story. Two unlikely people will help to save their world. Thea is determined to follow in her brothers footsteps and become a dragon rider. Seb is a young man who wants out of the poor upbringing that he has. Dragons are released every four years to choose their riders and these two are chosen by the same dragon. The three of them must work together to become a cohesive unit. Through guts, strong will and determination they become the best and are the only ones who believe the rumors that something terrible is about to happen. They use the same skill set they had in the academy to pursue and conquer this danger.
The narration added to the story. I was given this book in exchange for an unbiased review via audiobook boom. This is worth a credit because it is so well written and engaging.
This was a good idea for a story. A wonderful fantasy to be chosen to be a Dragon rider. The whole idea would be something wished for.
The book has some interesting concepts concerning Dragons and their relationships with their riders. Anne McCafferty Dragon riders of Pern were a favorite of mine and she has not been matched for many years for her ideas concerning Dragons.
With good Character development and story line.
Narrator did a fine job.

That said, I enjoyed the book, and thought it was a pleasant way to spend a few hours. Tiffany Williams did a good job at all the voicing, enhancing the experience and making the characters more believable rather than less.
I enjoyed the overall plot (no spoilers) as well as the characterization of the dragons. It was an interesting take on the dragon/rider relationships and cool that the main characters were in partnership though forced initially.
I was challenged with the characters reactions though, and felt that they came across several years younger than their stated ages..which was a little jarring for me at times. In addition, I felt that Mordecai was a little too stereotypical and overplayed, which was also jarring at times.
Other than that, however, it was a nice series opener and I look forward to the rest!
I like a wide range of genres. Favorites include Horror, SciFi, Fantasy, Thriller, LGBT, classics and history.
Decent series launch, it's very YA so it's not very deep. I didn't find the characters all that likable, which makes it hard to enjoy the book. Still the writing and story was good. I'll probably follow up with future book and see if they get better.
The narrator gave a good performance.
