Publisher's summary

Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all - popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend. Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she is or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, Sam realizes that it's one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took "mean girl" to a whole new level, and it's clear that she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She's getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she's falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash.

But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night aren't just buried deep inside of Sam's memory. Someone else knows - someone who wants to make sure that Sam stays quiet.

Critic reviews

"This engrossing thriller packs a heady atmospheric punch with plenty of theatrical scares." ( Kirkus)

I have been a fan of Jennifer L Armentrout books, but this one exceeded my expectations! Wish she would right more mysteries and thrillers!

Another great stand alone story

Jennifer L. Armentrout knows how to keep us captivated. Don’t look back is my number 2 in her stand alone novellas. The characters are interesting and make you imagine they are real. Sam and Carson make you feel like you’re in high school again experiencing your first real love. The narrator did a wonderful job and keeps your attention!

Unexpected twists and turns!

This story contains excellent detail and poignant language. There is an intense usage of imagery and figurative language that at times left me feeling as if I was truly in the story. Unlike most young adult fiction I found this book geared at a slightly older audience and its plot to be much less predictable than I had initially expected. The ending was an unforeseen surprise well worth the wait.

Great mystery

Even though I was able to predict the “who done it?” I was captivated by this story. It did leave me second guessing myself and instincts. Couldn’t stop once started.

I will remember

Thank you for a book that ended with me not worried to death about the characters so far I’ve read two series that have left me just so upset, but this book happily was just a single book with an ending . I will always remember that, because my biggest fear is reading another book that leaves me so anxious that I am scared to start another series: WHAT Happened to CASTELE/HAWK please!!!!!!

My favorite YA mystery thriller

This book sucked me in from the very 1st page. I was excited to see that it was an audiobook, because I was on the edge of my seat. When I read the e-book several years ago it has the perfect amount of mystery and suspense to keep you guessing. Hearing the attorney told him if he article version was even better. The narrator was great! Jennifer Armentrout is one of my favorite authors and can’t many people tell a story like she can.

Loved the Premise, Hated the Perception of Mental Health

This book was great. The narrator was great. There was a huge contrast between Carla Mercer-Meyer and the previous narrator I listened to, and it was a huge improvement. I loved this book, all in all, except for how the main character, Sam, perceived mental health. I *hope* that it’s because it’s been eight years since it was published, and that perhaps things have changed enough in that time that Sam wouldn’t protest seeing a psychiatrist, think medications would numb her to the world, and think that a guy wouldn’t want to go to prom with her because of those things. Mental health needs to be normalized, because it’s just as important as physical health. But beyond that, this book made me gasp, made my heart race, and kept me invested.
