Audible Editor Reviews

Diving In is the first book in Kate Cann's trilogy about the torrid emotional and sexual relationship between two British teenagers, Colette (Coll) and Arthur (Art). The novels are written from Coll's point of view, though Cann has supplemented the series with a fourth ebook written from Art's.

Amanda Hulme performs Diving In with a modern sass - or in British vernacular, cheekiness - befitting the updated, 2007 version of the novel that was originally published in 1999, when cell phones were a rarity and teenagers were still familiar with the workings of fax machines. But the emotional core of Cann's book is timeless: Coll might be ready to fall in love, but is she ready to lose her virginity?

Can she cope with a boyfriend who's much more experienced than her? How much should she suppress what she's increasingly feeling? Will she turn out like her man-hating mother, or like Art's sad last girlfriend, who suddenly got dumped? Just how fast should Coll be diving into love?

What the Critics Say

"Coll is likable and funny, if obsessed, and Hulme's reading is spot-on." (AudioFile)
